A Chicago death and the Florida governor were connected by “destructive and dangerous” rhetoric said New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) trying to take the moral high ground on anti-Semitism.

Since the October 7 terror attack on Israel by Hamas, members of the radical left “Squad” in Washington, D.C. have been among the most vocal in support of anti-Israeli protests and the nation’s right to defend itself from further death and destruction. Monday, she extended her position to hampering American security as she challenged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ (R) stand against the United States taking in refugees from Gaza.
“It is reckless. And no leader in the United States of America should be amplifying a message like that,” the congresswoman argued on “CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip.”
The host had played a clip from a campaign stop in Iowa where the 2024 presidential hopeful had said, “I don’t know what [President Joe] Biden’s gonna do, but we cannot accept people from Gaza into this country as refugees. I am not gonna do that. If you look at how they behave, not all of ’em are Hamas, but they are all anti-Semitic. None of them believe in Israel’s right to exist.”
“There’s a lot in there, but I wonder, for you, is he touching on something that is perhaps real here?” asked Phillip of Ocasio-Cortez who could be seen shaking her head during the clip. “Should Arab countries be taking on the lion’s share of the burden to absorb what could be over a million if not more refugees from Gaza?”
In response, the New York lawmaker left national security concerns unaddressed as she worked her way toward associating the governor’s position with the stabbing death of a six-year-old Muslim boy and the attempted murder of his mother alleged to have been committed by their landlord in Chicago.
“I think there’s something to be said about the region’s partners being able to support and step up Palestinians. However, that does not abdicate the United States from our historic role that we’ve played in the world of accepting refugees and allowing people to restart their lives here,” she began.
“And I also want to address something very specific about what Gov. DeSantis said when he said quote, unquote, all Gazans are anti-Semitic,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “How incredibly destructive and dangerous that rhetoric is. We just had a six-year-old boy stabbed 26 times this morning because of rhetoric like that and it is dangerous. It is unacceptable. It is reckless. And no leader in the United States of America should be amplifying a message like that.”
Though not pointing to DeSantis, a similar line had been taken by Biden who released a message Sunday in response to the death that read in part, “As Americans, we must come together and reject Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry and hatred. I have said repeatedly that I will not be silent in the face of hate. We must be unequivocal.”

However, unaddressed was the basis of DeSantis’ claim repeated again as he led the charge in bringing Americans trapped in war-torn Israel home to Florida and once more during an appearance with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
“No Gaza refugees period. We’re just not gonna do it. And why? Because we don’t want to import the pathologies from the Gaza Strip and other places in the Middle East to the United States of America. They are taught to hate Jews,” he expressed to Hannity as clips of a children’s program played alongside him that demonized Israelis. “They are taught that Israel has no right to exist. The textbooks that they use don’t even have Israel on the map.”
