Elizabeth Warren ramps up the rhetoric over Rupert Murdoch’s retirement

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is almost giddy over Fox News’ Rupert Murdoch stepping down from his leadership role at what she called a “hate-for-profit machine.”

Warren says she is “glad” to see Murdoch go and suggests his departure may ultimately be a gift for the liberal agenda, which remains to be seen.

The leftist senator made her feelings known on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” Thursday. She accused Murdoch of causing “incalculable damage” to the United States.

Discussing Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s (R-Ala.) blocking military promotions over abortion, Warren said, “We have to put a stop to this and to find a way to move all of these people through together. Our national defense depends on moving our military leaders forward and getting Senator Tuberville out of the way.”

“You know it seems that what Tuberville is doing and others are doing does seem in many incidences to essentially entertain viewers of right network Fox, and other right-wing media. There does not seem to be a purpose behind that. You have called Fox a dangerous, you know, factory of lies and been very blunt in your assessment of the damage that they’ve done to our democracy,” Reid stated.

The radical MSNBC host then asked Warren, “Do you have comment on the fact that Rupert Murdoch, at 92, is now stepping down and is becoming an emeritus and no longer running the company?”

“Rupert Murdoch built a hate-for-profit machine and that machine has undermined our democracy and done incalculable damage to this nation. I’m glad he’s leaving, but I wish he’d never come,” Warren commented.

Warren refused an invitation to appear at a Fox News town hall in 2019. She accused the network at the time of providing “a megaphone to racists and conspiracists.”

An announcement was issued on Thursday that the Australian-born Murdoch would be stepping down from his position as chairman at News Corporation and Fox Corporation. Murdoch’s empire includes Fox News, Fox Business, the New York Post, The Wall Street Journal, HarperCollins, and others.

A statement from News Corporation and Fox Corporation asserted that Murdoch would “be appointed Chairman Emeritus of each company,” and that Murdoch’s son, Fox Corporation CEO Lachlan Murdoch, would “become sole Chair of News Corp and continue as Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Corporation.”

“Our companies are in robust health, as am I. Our opportunities far exceed our commercial challenges. We have every reason to be optimistic about the coming years — I certainly am, and plan to be here to participate in them,” Murdoch wrote in his announcement to the staff at Fox News. “I will be watching our broadcasts with a critical eye, reading our newspapers and websites and books with much interest, and reaching out to you with thoughts, ideas, and advice.”
