GOP stronghold MAY FLIP – Barack Obama requested last minute!

Congressional control after the 2024 election could be swayed before a single vote is cast and to see that done, Democrats have enlisted the help of former President Barack Obama.

A fundraiser was held in Martha’s Vineyard last week to advance the cause of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC). A memo outlining the five states that could see new maps before the end of the year was obtained by Politico along with remarks by the former president.

“The only danger is that we get complacent. Because one thing we’ve learned is that the other side doesn’t quit,” said Obama at the event he hosted that went on to highlight 27 congressional districts spread throughout 13 states that could be altered by Election Day 2024.

The five states focused on for this year by the committee were Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina and New York with particular attention placed on Alabama and the U.S. Supreme Court victory in Allen v. Milligan. That case saw Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh side with Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson in maintaining an injunction requiring the state to create additional districts as their current map likely violated the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

“Alabama’s still engaging in resistance, and NDRC has to be there, along with other civil rights organizations, to ensure that this victory in the Supreme Court is actually translated into people’s votes being counted in Alabama,” said Obama.

The memo noted the committee’s belief that the decision bolstered chances of similar victories in Louisiana and Georgia, where so-called “Black opportunity districts” could be added, as well as in Texas.

“…we are now living in an era of perpetual redistricting,” NDRC president John Bisognano said in the memo that later noted, “To underscore the urgency of this moment, by the end of 2023, nearly half of those states will see new congressional maps–enough to tip control of the U.S. House of Representatives to either party.”

The former president wasn’t shy about his involvement with the committee fundraiser as he took to X to promote Politico’s reporting and wrote, “I’m proud of the progress that @DemRedistrict has made in the fight for fair maps. Their work is protecting our democracy, and ensuring that maps are drawn in a way that allows voters to select their representatives, not the other way around.”

While efforts in The Empire State alone could see a pickup of seven seats for the Democrats out of the 11 currently held by the GOP, North Carolina presented a potential balance where Republicans could gain four seats thanks to that state’s Supreme Court.

The memo warned “The districts at stake before the 2024 election are enough to return the national congressional map to a nearly insurmountable Republican gerrymander. Or, they could deliver a map that is more representative of, and responsive to the American people. Success or failure depends on your continued support.”

With the 118th Congress, the House of Representatives maintained a slim advantage toward the Republicans with 222 seats held to the Democrats 212.
