A sad scene of desolation replaced what was once a thriving department store as Nordstrom finally closed its flagship store in San Francisco.
After three decades of doing business in the community, only empty shelves and display cases were left behind in the anchor Westfield Mall location.

“It’s half of the mall that is no longer going to be here. I do think it might change the businesses. You can already see it. It’s unfortunate,” a Nordstrom employee told ABC7-TV.
“It is definitely partially due to the crime in the area. COVID had a big impact,” the employee who wished to remain anonymous added.
Though the rising crime and homelessness in San Francisco cannot be denied, Sarah Dennis Phillips, Executive Director of the Office of Economic & Workforce Development seemed to think the way people shop has something to do with store closures.
“What we are seeing out there is that younger people particularly when they come to the city they want to see new concepts. They want to see pop-ups and exciting things that are here for a short period of time,” she said.
But elsewhere in the Westfield Mall, video from the World Peace Movement account on X tells a different story.
