‘Another cover-up!’ GOP explodes when Secret Service closes WH cocaine probe with ‘no suspect identified’

Outrage among conservatives exploded as the Secret Service announced on Thursday that it was closing the investigation into cocaine found at the White House earlier this month, claiming they were “not able” to “single out a person of interest” because there wasn’t enough physical evidence.

Republicans immediately accused the Biden administration of a cover-up.

After the Secret Service briefed members of Congress on their findings, they issued a statement claiming that the cocaine was found on July 2 “inside a receptacle used to temporarily store electronic and personal devices prior to entering the West Wing.” The purported location of the drugs has changed several times since being found.

The agency asserted that they had been looking into “how this item entered the White House,” including a “methodical review of security systems and protocols.”

“This review included a backwards examination that spanned several days prior to the discovery of the substance and developed an index of several hundred individuals who may have accessed the area where the substance was found,” the Secret Service noted. The agency stated that investigators developed “a pool of known persons for comparison of forensic evidence gleaned from the FBI’s analysis of the substance’s packaging.”

Lab results were received from the FBI on Wednesday. The Secret Service then contended that the investigation “did not develop latent fingerprints and insufficient DNA was present for investigative comparisons.”

“Therefore, the Secret Service is not able to compare evidence against the known pool of individuals,” the agency said and then reported that the FBI “also confirmed that it was cocaine.”

“There was no surveillance video footage found that provided investigative leads or any other means for investigators to identify who may have deposited the found substance in this area,” the Secret Service stated. “Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered.”

“At this time, the Secret Service’s investigation is closed due to a lack of physical evidence,” they concluded.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) confirmed to the press after storming out of the briefing that the investigation was being closed with no suspects identified, according to the New York Post. He also said that less than 1 gram of cocaine was found.

Burchett remarked that agents “just decided it’s just some weekend visitor” and then said the entire investigation was “another cover-up” by the Biden White House, according to the Daily Mail.

“They have facial identification, they have — y’all know you can’t go in there without giving your Social Security number, and they decided it’s just some weekend visitor,” Burchett said. “That’s bogus. Nobody’s buying that at all.”

“Just left the most ridiculous meeting of all time with the Secret Service on the cocaine that was found in the White House,” Burchett stated in a video walking through Congress after Thursday’s briefing.

“It turns out – they don’t know who did it,” he added. “The investigation is going to be over at the end of the week, and they’re not going to find out who did it. And that’s basically it.”

“Another cover-up,” Burchett charged. “You know, it’s the most secure building in the entire world… Nobody, not even the press, goes in there without them knowing.”

He also called the outcome a “bad look on the Secret Service and a horrible look on this White House.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga,) recounted that the Secret Service said they had narrowed down the list of suspects to 500 people.

“Have they drug tested this list of 500 potential suspects that brought an illegal substance – the drug cocaine – into the White House?” Greene asked after the briefing. “Their answer was no, and that they’re unwilling to do so.”

The Federalist’s Sean Davis blasted the conclusion of the investigation as well.
