CNN’s Kaitlan Collins argues why kicking white men out of the military is okay if they are labeled

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) butted heads with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Monday as she tried to pin him on the definition of white nationalism as being racist, which he contends is “some people’s opinion,” asserting that the term is a “cover word” for Democrats.

Some contend that white nationalism ostensibly has to do with Caucasians believing in the sovereignty of the nation and that it is not the same as being part of the Ku Klux Klan or white supremacy despite what the Southern Poverty Law Center asserts. But Democrats are conflating them as all the same thing under their definition of racism these days. For good measure, many on the left are throwing Christians into their definition of racism as well. Tuberville stridently objects to that premise.

He appeared on the first episode of “The Source” on CNN with host Kaitlan Collins Monday. She attempted to back him into a corner over his blockage of more than 250 fast-tracked military promotions in the Senate due to abortion policy. Collins oozed hostility during the condescending interview while Tuberville refused to be baited or to lose his temper over her badgering.

On Monday, Tuberville blocked a Senate vote on a replacement for Gen. David Berger, who retired as commandant of the US Marine Corps, leaving the post empty for the first time since before the Civil War. Democrats are disparaging him over it but he’s standing fast until the subject of the Pentagon’s new policy of paying for the travel and time off of service members who want an abortion if the state they are stationed in does not allow the procedure is addressed.

In May, Tuberville was asked on WBHM if he supported white nationalists in the military and he responded at the time, “They [the Biden administration] call them that. I call them Americans.”

“But just to be clear, you agree that white nationalists should not be serving in the US military. Is that what you’re saying?” Collins asked Tuberville.

“If people think that a white nationalist is a racist, I agree with that,” Tuberville responded.

Collins then gave the left’s definition of what a “white nationalist” is, calling it “someone who believes that the white race is superior to other races.”

“Well, that’s some people’s opinion,” Tuberville replied, indicating that her definition of the term is not everyone else’s.

“That’s not an opinion,” Collins interjected with apparent disgust. “What’s your opinion?”

“The thing about being a ‘white nationalist’ — it’s just a cover word for the Democrats now where they can use it to try to make people mad across the country. Identity politics: I’m totally against that,” Tuberville reiterated.

Tuberville didn’t give an inch and unflinchingly repeated what he had stated in May.

“My opinion of a white nationalist … is an American. Now, if that white nationalist is a racist, I’m totally against anything that they want to do because I am 110 percent against racism,” the senator said, differentiating between someone who is a white nationalist and someone who is actually a racist.

“But I want somebody that’s in our military, that has a strong belief in this country, that’s an American, that will fight alongside anybody, whether with a man or woman, black or white, red. It doesn’t make any difference. And so I’m totally against identity politics. I think it’s ruining this country. And I think that Democrats ought to be ashamed for how they’re doing this because it’s divided this country and it’s making this country weaker every day,” he added.

Collins bulldogged the issue and wouldn’t let go of the definition of white nationalists.

Tuberville astutely pointed out, “If you’re going to do away with most white people in this country out of the military we’ve got huge problems…”

“It’s not people who are white,” Collins insisted. “It’s white nationalists. You see the distinction, right?”

“…that have a few probably different beliefs, that have different beliefs,” Tuberville said. “Now, if racism is one of those beliefs, I’m totally against that. I’m totally against racism.”

“But a white nationalist is racist, senator,” Collins contended.

“Well, that’s your opinion. That’s your opinion. But if it’s racism, if it’s racism, I’m totally against any type of racism, any type of racism. I don’t care what it is,” Tuberville stated.
