CNN’s Jake Tapper claims he won’t shy away from Hunter Biden coverage, but his record says otherwise

CNN anchor Jake Tapper certainly thinks highly of his own integrity, but his opinion on how he might cover developments in the Hunter Biden investigation didn’t square with his record.

“…I’m not gonna shy away from covering Hunter Biden.”

The scrutiny to which former President Donald Trump has been subject to has seemingly been matched by the lack thereof as it pertains to the alleged wrongdoings of his successor, President Joe Biden, and the man’s family.

Monday, Tapper attempted to spin his and his network’s record of disparity as he joined the podcast “On with Kara Swisher.”

“I think we cover it. We have been covering it and we need to cover it,” the anchor told the eponymous host when he was asked specifically about the plea agreement arranged with the Justice Department over Hunter’s tax fraud and federal gun charge.

“Look, I mean, Hunter Biden is who he is. It’s pretty clear who he is. In addition to being an addict, he’s a guy who ethically has — there have been questions raised about his behavior, and I think it’s worth covering,” Tapper continued, ironically dancing around the younger Biden’s record. “It’s also worth covering in context, the context of everything that’s being said in terms of like how fact-based any of it is or how evidence-based any of it is, but I’m not gonna shy away from covering Hunter Biden.”

“He is the president’s son and has made a lot of money being the president’s son,” he added.

Of course, at the announcement of Hunter’s plea deal, CNN had downplayed suggestions that it was in fact a “sweetheart deal,” with anchor John Berman stating to CNN legal analyst Jennifer Rodgers, “None of us really knows the details of the possible charges…and exactly what was agreed to as part of this plea, Jennifer.”

Furthermore, with regards to the network’s history of covering allegations brought against Hunter Biden, in Oct. 2020 when details about the infamous laptop were being suppressed, censored and wholly misrepresented by Big Tech, corporate media and representatives of the “intelligence community,” Tapper was fully on board with protecting the interests of then-candidate Joe Biden’s presidential election bid.

“The rightwing is going crazy with all sorts of allegations about Biden and his family. Too disgusting to even repeat here. I mean, some of the ones I’ve seen from the president’s son and some of the president’s supporters are just wildly unhinged,” he said at the time while reportedly going without even mentioning the laptop in the days after the story first broke, according to Fox News.

By contrast, he remained all too willing to cover the discredited Steele dossier and, as recently reported, has maintained his position as the arbiter of “misinformation” (and apparent protector of Biden’s political future) when he declared he would not host a town hall with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a primary challenger for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.
