New York City Mayor Eric Adams lost it at a public event on Wednesday while discussing rent increases at Gregorio Luperon High School for Science and Mathematics in Washington Heights, snapping at an elderly white woman that she should respect him and not treat him like a slave.
Video footage shows Adams asking the woman to stand up after she called out that he “raised the rent” at a “Talk with Eric” town hall. She asked Adams why New Yorkers had experienced “horrible rent increases last year and this year.”
Adams defended himself, claiming that he “does not control the Rent Guidelines Board,” but the woman was incensed and continued to rail over the rent hikes.
“You said before and after that, you supported those rent increases!” the woman contended while pointing her finger for emphasis at Adams which evidently ticked the mayor off.

“First, if you’re going to ask a question, don’t point at me, and don’t be disrespectful to me,” he told the woman.
Then he atrociously compared her to a slave owner on a plantation.
“I’m the mayor of this city and treat me with the respect that would deserve to be treated. I’m speaking to you as an adult. Don’t stand in front like you treated someone that’s on the plantation that you own,” he arrogantly told the woman at the community conversation event.
“Give me the respect that I deserve and engage in a conversation. Up here in Washington Heights, treat me with the same level of respect I treat you. So don’t be pointing at me. Don’t be disrespectful to me. Speak with me as an adult because I’m a grown man. I walked into this room as a grown man and I’ll walk out of this room as a grown man. I answered your question – go to the next table,” Adams stated, dismissing her.

Unbelievably, people applauded Adams for the demeaning and unprofessional attack on the woman.
Adams has been repeatedly slammed for the Rent Guidelines Board voting to allow rent hikes of up to 6 percent on New York City’s one million rent-stabilized apartments, according to the New York Post.
The mayor was absolutely obliterated on social media for the manner in which he handled the angry woman’s concerns about rent:

Respect is earned. Just because you are mayor doesn’t mean she has to give it to you. Her question was extremely valid considering the increase in rent when pay rates have stayed the same for years. The fact that you played the race card was extremely low.
