Biden says VP Harris hasn’t gotten ‘the attention she deserves’

President Joe Biden’s first interview following the announcement of his reelection campaign included a pointed question on the prominence of Vice President Kamala Harris in his announcement: “What are you trying to tell us?”

When Biden took office at 78 years old, many conservative commentators speculated that he would not complete his four-year term. The oft-repeated decision to refer to the administration as Biden-Harris instead of solely focusing on the commander-in-chief only further suggested the routinely addled president could be seeking his exit.

Now, even corporate media is raising doubts about the octogenarian occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle pressed Biden during her “The 11th Hour” one-on-one interview Friday as to why Harris was featured so heavily in his reelection campaign announcement.

“…in your first video you feature Vice President Harris 10 times. When Obama was in that position, he didn’t mention you, sir. What are you trying to tell us?” she smiled as she asked suggestively.

“We just had a slightly different style of how we do things,” Biden replied before making a point about Harris’ role in his presidency. “Look, I just think that Vice President Harris hasn’t gotten the credit she deserves. She was an attorney general of the state of California. She has been a United States senator, she is really very, very good. And with everything going on, she hasn’t gotten the attention she deserves.”

However, Ruhle continued and directly addressed the sunsetting elephant in the room, “Critics would say you’re elevating her because they think you wouldn’t serve a full term, and it is fair to say that there’s not Fortune 500 company in the world looking to hire a CEO in his 80s. So why would an 82-year-old Joe Biden be the right person for the most important job in the world?”

“Because I have acquired a hell of a lot of wisdom and know more than the vast majority of people,” Biden claimed, despite recently being stumped by a child on what country he had just returned from days earlier.

Of course, in the same interview, Biden had claimed that his poll numbers were only low because the press was unfavorably covering his administration because negative news was the only way to maintain viewership.

“All they’ve heard is negative news for three years,” he suggested of the American people. “Everything is negative. I’m not being critical of the press, but you turn on the television — the only way you’re gonna get a hit is if there’s something negative, you know. You don’t — anyway, that’s number one.”

Biden hasn’t been alone in propping up Harris to what appears to be his co-president. In just the latest example, she herself tweeted, “@POTUS and I met with our Investing in America Cabinet, which is implementing our Administration’s historic investments in climate action, infrastructure, and American manufacturing. We made a pledge to deliver for working people — and that’s exactly what we’ll continue to do.” (emphasis added)
