Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy tore into what he called a “toxic” federal bureaucracy after the FBI was caught plotting to infiltrate Catholic and other Christian churches, asserting that the only solution was to “shut it down.”
The House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government aired documents that show the federal agency ludicrously wanted to place plants inside the church to combat terrorism in America.
In an interview with Fox News Digital on Tuesday, Ramaswamy stated that when a government agency gets “this toxic,” it should be shuttered entirely.
“When a federal bureaucracy becomes this toxic, there’s only one answer left. You shut it down,” he insisted. “Top-down ‘reform’ becomes impossible. Career politicians are too meek. This will take an outsider to get the job done.”

The FBI evidently planned to use churches as “new avenues for tripwire and source development.” The federal agency also sought to specifically target “mainline Catholic parishes” as part of its anti-terrorism plans.
The subcommittee’s chairman, Jim Jordan, noted that the FBI expressed interest in “leverag[ing] existing sources and/or initiat[ing] Type 5 Assessments to develop new sources with the placement and access.” It also planned to sensitize religious congregations “to the warning signs of radicalization and enlist their assistance to serve as suspicious activity tripwires.”
Jordan wasted no time in issuing a subpoena seeking a number of related documents the committee previously requested from the FBI and that the agency had failed to produce.

“The FBI received the subpoena,” the federal agency said in a statement given to Fox News Digital. “The FBI recognizes the importance of congressional oversight and remains fully committed to cooperating with Congress’s oversight requests consistent with its constitutional and statutory responsibilities. The FBI is actively working to respond to congressional requests for information, including voluntary production of documents.”
In an effort at plausible deniability that fell flat, the agency referred Fox News to recent comments made by FBI Director Christopher Wray during his congressional testimony where he claimed he was “aghast” when he saw reports about the FBI targeting Catholics as if anyone truly believes he doesn’t know what his agency is doing regarding terrorism.
“We took steps immediately to withdraw it and remove it from FBI systems. It does not reflect FBI standards,” Wray claimed. “We do not conduct investigations based on religious affiliation or practices, full stop. We have also now ordered our inspection division to take a look at how this happened and try to figure out how we can make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.”
