Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) is looking more and more like a hypocrite as she unabashedly begs people to not leave New York, ringing alarm bells following the state’s massive population loss, after telling Republican lawmakers to “get out” and go to Florida just months ago.
Hochul admitted that New York’s government has to “reverse the trend of people leaving our state” on Sunday, according to Fox News.
She made the comments during her January 1 inaugural address after winning re-election by a slim margin. She promised to make the state a better and safer place to live, which she has so far failed to do. She grudgingly acknowledged that New Yorkers fled the state over the past year but didn’t list the obvious reasons for doing so such as crime, inflation, homelessness, taxation, and over-regulation.
“In a perhaps unexpected acknowledgment, @GovKathyHochul says New York State ‘must reverse the trend of people leaving our state,’” local CBS anchor Anne McCloy tweeted. “New York State saw the greatest population decline of any state in the last year according to the most recent U.S. Census data.”

During Hochul’s gubernatorial campaign against Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) in August, she tore into her opponent and other Republicans, telling them, “We’re here to say that the era of Trump and Zeldin and Molinaro – just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong. Get out of town.”
“You are not New Yorkers,” she added. “We come from a long line of people who fought for women’s rights that happened here first. We fought for environmental justice that happened here first. We fought for labor rights that happened here first. We fought for LGBTQ rights that happened here first.”
The callous and brazenly partisan attack outraged conservatives. They accused the governor of “flat out attacking not just GOP politicians, but GOP voters.” She claimed the attack was solely aimed at Zeldin, former President Trump, and Rep. Marcus Molinaro, not voters, but conservatives weren’t buying it then or now.

Hochul was eviscerated for her groveling and lame attempt to get people to not leave or to return to New York after her previous statements.
Reporter Jim Stinson bluntly informed Hochul, “If you tell people to leave, they will. If you over-regulate them and overtax them, they will leave faster.”

RNC researcher Jack Schneider nailed Hochul, “Woman who told Republicans to ‘jump on a bus and head down to Florida’ shocked they listened.”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Deputy Press Secretary Jeremy Redfern addressed Hochul’s elephant in the room, “Didn’t she recently tell people that’s if they don’t vote for her then they should just move to Florida?”

Conservative radio host Michael Berry pointed out, “They all moved to Florida. People voted with their feet. The policies of @GovRonDeSantis created a safer, freer & better place to live. When self-described ‘NYC snob’ moved out, they should have just turned out the lights. It’s all about policy.”
Retired U.S. diplomat Alberto Miguel Fernandez hit it out of the park, “New York State missing the citizens that have fled and the future citizens that have been killed in the womb.”
But the very best tweet and the one that cut to the heart of the matter came from Rep. Lee Zeldin himself who clobbered Hochul over her hypocrisy: “Here’s a great place for Hochul to start: Stop telling people to get on a bus and move to Florida if they disagree with your views.”
