Fox News anchors balk over Kari Lake’s pledge to ‘reform’ media, mock her ‘worst nightmare’ comment

On a messy election day in Arizona where an inexplicable series of problems plagued poll locations, Republican gubernatorial hopeful Kari Lake mixed it up with reporters, throwing their gotcha questions back in their faces and promising that if she wins, that she will make it her mission to reform the media.

In one exchange, the former television news reporter turned politician said, “I’m going to do two terms. I’m going to be your worst frickin’ nightmare for 8 years, and we will reform the media as well. We are going to make you guys into journalists again. So, get ready. It’s going to be a fun 8 years.”

Lake’s putting the press on notice didn’t sit well with Fox News Anchor John Roberts who reacted sourly to her words while defending the media with a straight face despite the majority of the nation having lost faith in the Fourth Estate as an institution with one recent poll showing that an overwhelming number of Americans view the media as a threat to democracy.

On Tuesday’s edition of “America’s Newsroom,” Roberts and co-anchor Sandra Smith discussed the feisty Trump-endorsed Lake’s remarks.

“All right, so there you have it. Kari Lake, gubernatorial candidate there, speaking after she cast her vote,” Smith said. “Obviously John, she is speaking after Maricopa County election officials reported that 20 percent of the tabulation machines in and around Maricopa County are having some problems. They say they are trying to fix those problems. The election official, Bill Gates said that right now, but some remarkable moments there where she says stay in line, don’t let all this craziness distract you, do not get out of line.”

“Also saying she intends to be the governor there for the next eight years, not be Donald Trump’s running mate, saying I’m going to be your worst fricking nightmare for the next eight years,” Roberts said.

“She also said she was — it was her intention to reform the media. I’m not quite sure what she was getting at there because the ripe history of a free press, the rich history of  a free press in this country is something we have embraced for many, many hundreds of years, so I’m not quite sure how a politician goes about reforming the media.”

Obviously, he wasn’t referring to post-Obama America, an era in which an already biased press no longer even bothered to pretend that they were neutral observers and embraced their roles as attack dogs for the Democratic Party, the Liz Cheney-led rump of the Bush-McCain-Romney establishment GOP and the ‘deep state’ by completely abrogating their essential role in holding power accountable.

Last month’s New York Times/Siena poll was an October surprise to the paid liars and propagandists, with 59 percent of those surveyed viewing the mainstream media as a major threat to democracy with another 25 percent viewing the greatest purveyors of hate and misinformation as a minor threat to democracy, for an astounding 84 percent identifying the real enemy. A meager 15 percent view the media as being benign and not a threat to democracy.

The NYT poll wasn’t an outlier either, as another recent survey, this one from Gallup also shows a massive amount of public distrust of those who are tasked as guardians of democracy with the very important duty of holding corrupt power accountable, a task which today’s press has monumentally failed at.

A key part of Lake’s appeal is her combative reaction to media activists who have spent months trying to destroy her but if she ends up winning the election it will be a resounding message to an institution that arguably has been complicit in the horrific problems that have brought upon the nation by the extremism of the Democrats.
