What if it were George Soros? Critics say Left is not making enough noise about Musk buying Twitter

With billionaire Elon Musk’s privatization of Twitter, it is widely believed that progressives have lost some hold on controlling the narrative through censorship, shadowbanning and artificially promoted “influencers” toeing party lines.

As talking heads on the left reacted, MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan made a telling admission about Democratic practices when he stumbled through a false equivalency arguing, “the right would have made far more noise” if “George Soros had been buying Twitter.”

Sunday on “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” the host led his panel through a discussion that continued to promote the idea that facts Democrats didn’t like were the same as disinformation. As such, he posited the idea that President Joe Biden or Congress should have taken action to block Musk’s purchase of the social media platform.

“Julián, I have to ask,” Hasan said specifically to his guest, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, “could the Biden administration, could Democrats in Congress have said or done anything to prevent or even slow down this Musk purchase of Twitter?”

“I feel like if George Soros had been buying Twitter, the right would have made far more noise and expressed more outrage,” he argued. “Dems just let it happen as if it’s fine for Twitter to become yet another platform for misinformation and hate.”

Whether or not a Soros acquisition of Twitter would have changed the status quo on the platform further to the left is up for debate, but what can’t be disputed is Hasan, in trying to label Musk as a right-wing manipulator, essentially admitted to the far-reaching influence that Soros has demonstrated.

The host may still have been salty following a burn from Musk earlier this year when the billionaire slammed him for “basically saying Republicans are Nazis,” and followed it up by stating, “Same org that covered up Hunter Biden laptop story, had Harvey Weinstein story early & killed it & built Matt Lauer his rape office. Lovely people.”

Castro partially negated Hasan’s argument as he acknowledged that Musk had deleted a post responding to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the unknown details of the alleged attack against Paul Pelosi from Friday, but went on to decry the billionaire’s overall behavior.

“I think he’s acted very irresponsibly, immaturely. Frankly, Mehdi, I don’t know how in the world this guy got to be the richest person in the world acting as irresponsibly and immaturely as–and erratically as we’ve seen him act,” Castro said.

As it happened, following his failed 2020 presidential run, Castro notably joined the board of directors of the Center for American Progress, the leftist organization founded by current chair John Podesta and funded in part by infamous “spooky dude” Soros.

Musk’s promotion of “free speech absolutism” and admission to having voted for now-Rep. Mayra (R) Flores in her special election to Texas’ 34th Congressional District while also showing favor for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for president in 2024 has pegged him as a right-winger to progressives.

However, as far as his aims for the social media platform are concerned, Musk has repeatedly claimed neutrality over bias and reiterated that Saturday in response to concern about “election censorship” raised by Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton after a story from Just The News was flagged as “misinformation.”

“I will look into this,” Musk responded. “Twitter should be even-handed, favoring neither side.”

The same cannot be said for the incestuous networking manipulated by funding for George Soros and his Open Society Foundation and progressives in general as the aforementioned Clintonista Podesta returned to the White House in September to serve the Biden administration as an advisor for “Green Energy Innovation and Implementation” shortly after the Democrat-controlled Congress green-lit roughly half of the nearly three-quarters of a trillion dollars in spending from the Inflation Reduction Act toward the green agenda.
