CNN ‘cost-cutting efforts’ result in axing of documentaries and original series

Since CNN’s new chairman and CEO Chris Licht took the wheel at the network many have looked on wondering which left-wing pseudo-intellectual would be the next on the chopping block. After a Friday email to employees, some larger cuts than expected were announced further signaling to some that the “Hate Outlet” is “imploding.”

Licht has been more than forthcoming about the changes happening at CNN under parent company Warner Bros. Discovery and after bracing employees earlier in the week about what lay on the horizon, he revealed a new direction in content creation that would kiss some familiar programs goodbye.

Reporting on an email to employees sent out Friday, The New York Times wrote, “Chris Licht, the chairman of CNN, told employees Friday that the network would stop buying documentary films and original TV series as part of its cost-cutting efforts.”

“This was a very difficult decision to make,” Licht said, “and it was based, in large part, on the ever-increasing cost of commissioning third-party premium content.”

The Times went on to detail, “Mr. Licht said that the network would be moving away from those movies and shows, which include ‘Navalny,’ ‘RBG’ and ‘The Burning of Black Wall Street,’ and original TV series such as ‘Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.'” Also said to be ending would be “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.”

Breitbart’s John Nolte opined on the announcement that “the Hate Outlet is pretty much abandoning its stupid and failed attempt to produce original series and films,” and offered, “From now on, any long-form content will be produced internally. Which almost certainly means cheap-o ‘news magazines’ such as 20/20.”

The move comes following a note earlier in the week where Licht wrote to staff warning of impending layoffs, “We have also begun to reduce or eliminate areas that aren’t core to our mission. All these moves are designed to keep CNN essential across platforms to ensure that wherever and however people get their news, they must have CNN.”

Mentioning the economic outlook and how it impacted long-term planning, he went on, “All this together will mean noticeable change to this organization. That, by definition, is unsettling. These changes will not be easy because they will affect people, budgets, and projects.”

Nolte went on to blast former network head Jeff Zucker for CNN’s original drive to air non-news programming, attributing it to “vanity and kickbacks” as “Acquiring these series and movies allowed Zucker to hobnob with the Hollywood elite and play the big shot. It also allowed him to pour millions of dollars all over his left-wing friends, the people who created this garbage.”

“The only hope for CNN is to do something CNN will never do,” he argued, “and that’s to fire its current anchors–a mob of lying, smug, dishonest bigots–and replace them with likable people who will report the news, rather than lie and virtue signal and gin up violence.”

Supporting his claim, Nolte pointed to Jake Tapper being made “the face of the network” before referring to the anchor as “Election-denier Jake Tapper. Election-meddler Jake Tapper. Serial liar Jake Tapper.”

With six films and six series slated for next year, the announcement meant more layoffs at the network but the planned shows including “American Pain” about opioid kingpins and Lebron James’ produced “See It Loud: The History of Black Television,” would air as scheduled.

“Watching CNN implode,” Nolte said in part, “fills me with more joy than Christmas morning…”
