Transgender Thai businesswoman buys Miss Universe organization for $20M after cheating and sex scandals

Jakrajutatip is the CEO and the biggest shareholder of JKN Global Group Pcl (JKN) according to the Daily Mail. She is a huge celebrity in Thailand and has appeared on “Shark Tank” and “Project Runway.”

She looks the part of a beautiful woman, but her voice betrays her actual gender when you listen to her.

The purchase of the organization is the first time that a woman has owned it, albeit a transgender woman.

The high-profile transgender has been very vocal about her transition. Jakrajutatip founded the Life Inspired For Thailand Foundation to advocate for the rights to dignity and opportunities for transgender people and she is a hero in the LGBTQ+ community.

The news that the Bangkok Post’s Media Woman of the Year had bought the organization rocked the pageant world just days after the organizers of Miss USA were suspended amidst charges that the winner, R’Bonney Gabriel, was chosen ahead of time due to race and wokeness. She is a Filipino from Texas. It also follows Miss USA Vice President Max Sebrechts’ resignation from the board in January after he was accused of being a sexual predator.

The pageant has been in existence for 71 years and is broadcast in 165 countries.

In a statement, Jakrajutatip described the purchase of the organization as “a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.” JKN asserts that the Miss Universe name will be used to promote its consumer products which include content distribution, food supplements, beverages, and beauty and consumer products.

“We seek not only to continue its legacy of providing a platform to passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and traditions but also to evolve the brand for the next generation,” she said in a press release.

Following the deal with the JKN Global Group, Endeavor President Mark Shapiro declared in a statement that he’s “proud of the progress the organization has made in becoming a more inclusive and powerful platform where women can advance both their business objectives and their cause-based work.”

With the acquisition, Miss Universe plans to expand in Asia. JKN produces its own shows and distributes content in Thailand that includes Bollywood dramas and documentaries. After the news of the buy, the company’s shares jumped almost ten percent early Wednesday.

Jakrajutatip studied at an all-boy school where she was bullied for identifying as female, according to the Bangkok Post. As she attained financial success, she proceeded to spend $1 million on a sex reassignment surgery, as well as other procedures.

The pageant featured its first transgender contestant in 2018, when Miss Spain, Angela Ponce, competed for the crown.

The Miss Universe Organization was owned by former President Trump from 1996 through 2015. It was then purchased by IMG, a sports, talent, and events marketing company.
