Putin’s goddaughter, 40, reportedly flees on foot to the West to avoid arrest, police raid her home

Footage has surfaced that apparently shows Vladimir Putin’s goddaughter, Ksenia Sobchak, 40, fleeing the country by foot just hours after police swarmed her mansion to arrest her for speaking out against her godfather’s use of torture in Russian prisons.

Sobchak, a reality star and opposition politician, is known for slamming Putin and his heavy-handed tactics. She was also a TV personality and posed for Playboy at one point before going political.

The Daily Mail is reporting that she was seen crossing the Belarusian border into Lithuania by foot at the Vidzy frontier point 106 miles north of Minsk. She reportedly arrived on an Israeli passport. Putin’s goddaughter got out of Russia and fast.

In the Daily Mail’s video, Sobchak allegedly can be seen walking with an unidentified man, covering her face and wearing a cap as she slips across the border according to the RIA Novosti news agency. He is carrying a bag and nervously looking over his shoulder to see if they were being followed. At one point in the footage, he appears to warn Sobchak to lower her head to avoid being seen on camera.

The footage appears to show Sobchak passing through Belarus passport control on Wednesday while explaining to a border control officer that she is heading to Lithuania. Two uniformed men then accompany her as she carries her own bag to the border.

The leak of the video evidently comes from Belarusian border cameras. She took off after Russian investigators raided her luxury home in a prestigious Moscow suburb. It came via Telegram on a channel called Three Sisters with less than 2,000 subscribers. The footage reportedly has links to the security apparatus of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

Police are claiming that the raid was part of a probe into alleged wrongdoing by her media director, Kirill Sukhanov, who was arrested on charges of extortion and had nothing to do with Sobchak. She didn’t buy that flimsy story and hoofed it out of there before she could conveniently disappear. She was said to be facing 15 years in a Russian hellhole.

Sobchak is not a delicate wallflower. She’s outspoken and called the charges against Sukhanov “ravings and nonsense,” describing his arrest as an attempt to censor independent media who speak out against Putin. She has been very vocal against the invasion of Ukraine.

“My editorial team and I view this as yet another example of pressure against journalists,” she told The Telegraph. “There’s nothing to fault us with… They keep detaining my journalists. Now they’ve taken in Kirill and concocted charges against him.”

Lithuania’s Director of the State Security Department (VSD) Darius Jauniškis confirmed that she had entered Lithuania. He told radio station Zhinyu Radijas that Sobchak had Israeli citizenship and could enter without a visa and remain for 90 days without one.

Russian political scientist Sergei Markov asserted that a “high-ranking official” had tipped off Sobchak that she was going to be arrested.

To avoid arrest, it’s being reported that the Paris Hilton of Moscow bought tickets to Turkey and Dubai before heading to Belarus.

Belarus has been used as a transit point by some escapees fleeing Putin’s crackdown in recent weeks.
