Crumbley allegedly used a weapon owned by his father, according to ABC News. His parents James and Jennifer Crumbley have entered not-guilty pleas on four involuntary manslaughter charges, accused of making the gun accessible to him and overlooking his pre-shooting warning signs, ABC News reported.
Prosecutors have said Ethan Crumbley was seen in class doing ammunition research days prior to the shooting, with his mother later texting, “lol, I’m not mad at you, you have to learn not to get caught,” ABC News reported. A teacher allegedly witnessed a note on his desk stating, “The thoughts won’t stop, help me” and “Blood everywhere,” with a “semi-automatic handgun” drawing, hours before it took place.
After Ethan Crumbley’s arrest, police Lt. Tim Willis said he had filmed videos on his phone the night before the shooting speaking about “killing students the next day,” according to Fox News.
Oxford High School students filed a federal lawsuit in June against Oxford Community Schools, pursuing policy changes, NPR reported. The family of Riley Franz, who survived being shot in the neck, brought a $100 million federal lawsuit against the district and officials in December, according to the outlet.
Michigan State University’s football team declared shooting victim Tate Myre, who played football, an honorary member of their senior class last year.
Ethan Crumbley is scheduled to be sentenced after coming back to court in February, according to ABC News.
