Actor and comedian James Corden managed to get himself briefly banned from an upscale New York City restaurant, Balthazar, over “abusive” and rude behavior toward servers there but was forgiven after issuing a groveling apology.
Restaurateur Keith McNally reportedly unbanned Corden after he crawled to him, begging for forgiveness. That was after McNally called him a “tiny Cretin of a man” in an Instagram post on Monday. He noted that Corden had verbally abused restaurant staff and pitched a fit over the food he was served.
“[He’s] the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago,” McNally wrote on social media. “I don’t often 86 a customer, [but] today I 86’d Corden. It did not make me laugh.”
Corden is leaving “The Late Late Show” in 2023. He evidently had a bad day and took it out on those at the restaurant. The comedian called McNally after his egregious behavior and apologized “profusely.” McNally forgave him and unbanned him from his restaurant, according to Fox Business.

“Having f***ed up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances,” the Balthazar owner wrote on Instagram Monday.
Then, tongue-in-cheek so to speak, he asked Corden if he could host his late-night CBS show before inviting him back to his restaurant.
“But… anyone magnanimous enough to apologize to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere,” he asserted after Corden’s apology. “So Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Corden, Jimmy Corden. All is Forgiven. xx.”
The restaurant owner had previously aired in detail on social media Corden’s outbursts. The comedian claimed he found a hair in his food and according to Balthazar’s manager, demanded free drinks.

“Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far. This way I [won’t] write any nasty reviews in Yelp or anything like that,” Corden allegedly ordered the manager.
This isn’t the first time that Corden has blown up and made a scene at the restaurant. He reportedly ate there with his wife Julia Carey on October 9. She ordered an egg yolk omelet and allegedly found egg white mixed in. The server was castigated for it.
When the server returned with a new omelet, it mistakenly came with home fries instead of the salad that Corden’s wife had ordered. He allegedly flew into a rage and started “yelling like crazy” at the server.

“You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job!” he screamed at the unfortunate staff member. “Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelet myself!”
The floor manager stepped in to handle the situation and gave the couple free champagne glasses to smooth things over. The manager went on to relay that Corden was pleasant to him but “nasty” to the server.
The restaurant is a well-known celebrity hot spot in New York City. McNally also owns other popular restaurants such as Café Luxembourg and Minetta Tavern.
