Climate alarmists who threw soup on Van Gogh painting funded by big oil heiress

The granddaughter of the founder of Getty Oil is reportedly behind funding for the radical climate activist group “Just Stop Oil” that threw Heinz tomato soup on Van Gogh’s painting “Sunflowers,” which has an estimated worth of $84.2 million.

Two anti-fossil fuel protesters named Anna Holland and Phoebe Plummer were filmed throwing tomato soup on Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” in a London gallery on Friday and have been charged with criminal damage offenses, according to CNN. They glued themselves to the wall for added effect.

“What use is art when we face the collapse of civil society?” said “Just Stop Oil” in a statement following the soup dousing of the Van Gogh. “The art establishment, artists and the art-loving public need to step up into Civil Resistance if they want to live in a world where humans are around to appreciate art.”

The painting was protected by glass, so the only real damage was to the frame, according to curators at the National Gallery.

A third associate was also charged over a separate attack on the iconic “New Scotland Yard” sign that stands outside London’s main police headquarters, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Big oil heiress Aileen Getty is said to be a key funder of a widespread global network of grassroots climate groups, which includes the UK-based “Just Stop Oil.” She is a founding donor of the Climate Emergency Fund (CEF), a Los Angeles-based organization that finances a number of high-profile climate protest groups around the world. Getty is said to be a prolific environmental philanthropist.

She wired $500,000 to CEF shortly after it was founded in 2019, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy and CEF. The fund was inspired in part by student protesters like Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

CEF has gone on to donate millions of dollars to radicalized climate groups that have taken part in disruptive and sometimes violent protests across the globe. Grantees include the “A22 Network,” which includes “Just Stop Oil,” the US-based “Declare Emergency,” and groups in nine other countries including Germany, France, and Canada.

“We’re in this kind of surreal situation in which scientists are telling us this is the point of no return. And yet all of our institutions — they’re all just marching forward with a little bit of window dressing talk about sustainability, but basically continuing as usual,” Margaret Klein Salamon, who is CEF’s executive director, declared in a statement given to Fox News Digital.

“So these activists intervene and they say, ‘Things are not normal. They’re so bad that I’m gonna do this crazy thing and glue myself to a painting or a frame.’ It only makes sense because of how absolutely terrible the climate emergency is,” she asserted.

On its website, CEF contends that it works with, and is the lead funder of, the “A22 Network,” which it says is planning an “October uprising.”

Over the last several months, the leftist group has held a number of protests where members have glued themselves to famous paintings. “Just Stop Oil” activists have also blocked major roads and highways in the UK.

“It’s clear that new oil and gas is going to cause unimaginable suffering for the people of this country and, indeed, the people around the world who are suffering at the expense of climate change now,” a “Just Stop Oil” spokesperson told Fox News Digital in July.

During the first four months of this year, CEF has given a staggering $650,000 to “Just Stop Oil” and other climate protest groups.

“Declare Emergency” recently made headlines in the US for blocking traffic near DC in an effort to convince President Biden to declare a “climate emergency,” according to Fox News.
