The left has been all over Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for his handling of Hurricane Ian, baselessly claiming he is hiding the number of those missing while attempting to make him look incompetent because they fear the man so much.
An excellent example of this is unhinged author Lesley Abravanel who hilariously encouraged her followers to get back at DeSantis and his lovely wife Casey by donating to Hurricane Ian relief efforts in Florida. DeSantis has volunteered his time cooking meals and visiting those hardest hit by the storm across the state. He has led relief efforts hands down to help Floridians in their time of need. Looks like the joke is on Abravanel.
In true leftist fashion, if you can’t find mud to sling at a conservative or find any issue with their actions… lie. Abravanel is insanely fixated on what she claims is the staggering number of Sanibel and Pine Island residents who are still missing following the hurricane. Her claim is simply unbelievable.

There’s a significant number suicides from the storm. Folks didn’t evacuate, got flooded out, knew they were about to drown but chose to end their life instead. They wanted someone on the phone with them in their final moments. A staff of 16 clerical workers took about 5300 calls and only missed about 50 or so. DeSantis is trying to block media from covering his disaster. #RemoveRon,” she absurdly tweeted.

Then there is ex-Navy JAG Pam Keith, Esq. who joined the “pants on fire” claim, tweeting, “Do NOT just focus on the number of dead people from Ian. The number of missing people is likely to be shocking. My guess is that’s it’s going to be much higher than 5K.”

The claims are made with no basis in truth or reality whatsoever. Abravanel is using an unnamed source, of course. Anything and everything to smear DeSantis.
“My source’s wife is one of the clerical workers in the throes of this. She can not go on record because we have a petty, vindictive, dangerous governor and she is there to help people not to fight a governor running an imaginary presidential campaign. #RemoveRon,” Abravanel claimed.

National Security expert Travis Akers called her out on it, tweeting, “This tweet is absolutely not true. There are no corroborating sources or reports that even come close to these numbers. @lesleyabravanel, you should take this down. It’s misinformation and does not benefit anyone.”
Data Scientist District Al also called bs on her claim, “She can’t go on record bc @lesleyabravanel is lying. I’m a data scientist and I’m happy to provide my services for free for your assertion that 4,000 ppl out of a 15,000 person population are missing. I’ll share all work publicly. Let’s open source this. @ChristinaPushaw.”
