Cancel culture claims new victim: Top Apple exec who joked about liking ‘big-breasted women’

Cancel culture claimed a new victim in the form of an Apple executive after an investigation reportedly found the 22-year company man guilty–of telling a joke.

Until recently, Tony Blevins was the vice president of procurement for Apple and had made a name for himself as a tough negotiator who used unconventional means to close deals with suppliers. That career seemingly came to an end after a video of the executive attending a California car show on Aug. 18 went viral when, as part of an answer on what he does for a living, Blevins quipped, “fondle big-breasted women.”

The off-color remark was part of a broader attempt at light-heartedly quoting the 1981 film “Arthur” when TikToker Daniel Mac had approached Blevins who was getting out of his Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and asked, “Good sir, your car’s awesome! What do you do for a living?”

“I have rich cars,” Mac superimposed on the video as Blevins answered, “play golf and fondle big-breasted women. But I take weekends and major holidays off.”

“Also, if you’re interested, I got a hell of a dental plan,” Blevins continued as he got out of the $500,000 car sporting a Union Jack shirt and bright red shoes.

The video was posted online by Sept. 5 and quickly made the rounds leading, as Bloomberg reported, to an internal investigation on Blevins’ joke which his female companion could be heard finding quite humorous in the video. Apple did not find the reference to Dudley Moore’s titular character Arthur saying, “I race cars, play tennis, I fondle women, but I have weekends off and I am my own boss,” nearly as entertaining.

“After an internal investigation into the matter, Blevins’s team–which included about half a dozen direct reports and several hundred employees–was removed from his command, according to people familiar with the situation,” Bloomberg explained.

The outlet also made note of the now-former vice president’s effort to capitulate to the cancel mob that came for him with Blevins’s statement, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely apologize to anyone who was offended by my mistaken attempt at humor.”

A Wall Street Journal profile of the executive in 2020 had described Blevins’s reputation by recounting, he will “stop at little to get a favorable deal. He has paraded manufacturers past competitors in Apple’s lobby and spurned a UPS contract by sending it back to UPS executives through FedEx.”

Reactions to Apple’s decision for what many considered to be a harmless joke were equally plentiful and unfavorable for the tech giant.

It remains to be seen what if any severance agreement was brokered by the reportedly ousted Blevins and thus far the only remark from the company has been to confirm that “Tony is leaving Apple.”
