Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was a guest on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast Monday and flatly stated that when Republicans retake control of the House following the midterm elections, impeaching President Biden should take precedence over everything else.
“If we don’t engage in impeachment inquiries to get the documents and the testimony and the information we need, then I believe that our voters will feel betrayed and that likely, that could be the biggest win the Democrats could hope for in 2024 when it really matters to investigate them and to hold them accountable,” Gaetz said on Bannon’s show.
The Republican mandate is “not to go hold hands in the warm spring rain with the Democrats, it is to investigate them, hold them accountable and we can do that without the Senate, without the White House,” he contended.
“And we can do that without the Senate and without the White House. And that’s why it should be investigations first, policy, bill-making to support the lobbyists and the PACs as a far, far diminished priority,” Gaetz asserted.

Gaetz’s comments echo those of Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) who appeared on “Meet the Press” Sunday, telling host Chuck Todd that she believes that Republicans will vote to impeach the president when they regain control.
“Do you expect an impeachment vote against President Biden if Republicans take over the House?” Todd asked Mace during the interview.
“I believe there’s a lot of pressure on Republicans to have that vote,” she responded. “To put that legislation forward and to have that vote. I think that is something that some folks are considering.”

When Mace was asked how she would vote when it comes to impeachment, she said, “I will not vote for impeachment of any president if I feel that due process was stripped away, for anyone. I typically vote constitutionally, regardless of who is in power.”
So far, no one has solidly stated on what grounds impeachment would be sought but many contend there is a long list of constitutional violations that Biden is guilty of. The U.S.-Mexico border catastrophe, the president’s son Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, and the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan could all fit the bill. One or more of those issues could possibly form the basis for impeachment.
Support within the Republican Party to impeach Biden is mounting and it is almost a certainty they will begin proceedings after retaking the House.

According to Newsweek, Gaetz acknowledged that “there are current members of the Republican majority, people who will be in the next Congress, who are arguing very, very fervently that they will oppose the use of the ‘I’ word, impeachment, in any context for any official in the Biden administration.”
Nine resolutions have been introduced so far to impeach Biden, but none have had more than seven co-sponsors. That could all change drastically when the GOP is in control of the House. A simple majority vote is all that’s required to bring Articles of Impeachment.
Without 60 votes in the Senate, Republicans would not prevail in removing Biden from office but an impeachment could be politically damaging ahead of the 2024 presidential election. That could shift as well if Republicans win the Senate in the midterm elections.
