Newsom touts 10-year plan to end homelessness 14 years ago and it’s worse than ever under his leadership

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has been promising to end homelessness for years in the Golden State but it has gotten progressively worse during his time in office and he just keeps getting re-elected despite his abject failure on the issue.

Homelessness is endemic in California. It follows poverty and is a vehicle for disease and violent crime. After fourteen years of trying progressive policies, Newsom has not been able to even make a dent in the problem. Instead, he has managed to make it massively worse.

In 2008, he appeared in a video while he was mayor of San Francisco pushing a plan to tackle homelessness in California, which even then, was a huge problem. He vowed to eradicate it and he’s still promising to do so today. For some reason, Californians just keep on falling for it in a scenario reminiscent of Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the infamous football.

Former Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors candidate Kevin Dalton shared the video on his Twitter feed Thursday, showing Newsom laying out his plan for solving homelessness, pledging to construct more housing. The left is big on citing housing shortages as the key to solving homelessness. But if that were actually the case, the problem would have been resolved long ago.

Progressive policies issued through local, state, and federal programs have only exacerbated the problem. But Newsom keeps doubling down, spending more money, and making more promises he can’t or won’t keep.

“Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom recently announced the state had cleared 1,200 encampments in the past year, attempting to soften the message with a series of visits to social service programs. But without enough beds to shelter unhoused people, advocates say efforts to clear encampments are nothing more than cosmetic political stunts that essentially shuffle the problem from street corner to another,” according to Politico.

“California’s homelessness problem has deep, gnarled roots dating back decades, but has become increasingly pronounced in recent years. Tents and tarps on sidewalks, in parks and under freeways have become a near-ubiquitous symbol of the state’s enduring crisis. A pandemic-spurred project to move people from encampments to motels has lapsed, and eviction moratoriums have dissolved. Homelessness is a top concern for voters in the liberal state, and as Democrats prepare for the midterm elections, Newsom and other leaders have been eager to show voters they’re taking action,” the media outlet added.

The United States Interagency Council on Homelessness tweeted numbers showing a steadily increasing homeless population in the state since 2010.

Californians are slamming the state’s “homeless industrial complex” as their tax dollars go into a gigantic black hole that is supposed to remedy the crisis but never does.

Rivaling destitute third-world nations, California was “home” to a shocking 28 percent of the total homeless population in the United States as recently as 2020, according to Forbes.

The rate of homelessness in California far exceeds other states, even ones led by other progressive politicians such as New York. Newsom may seek to run for the presidency so he can do for America what he has done in his home state.

Some contend the homeless numbers in his state have actually increased over the last two years with housing shortages and skyrocketing inflation. That’s hard to determine since there are so many currently living on the street in cities across the state.

Typically, when Newsom is cornered on the problem he deflects and attacks conservative governors such as Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.)

But businesses and residents are fed up with what is going on in the state concerning homelessness and they are making their voices heard over it.

Even the United Nations has castigated California for its homeless problem and they typically embrace progressive policies. Back in 2018, the UN accused state and local leaders of human rights violations surrounding San Francisco’s homelessness, according to SFGate.

Things have not taken a turn for the better since then under the leftist leadership of Gavin Newsom.
