ABC’s Donna Brazile proclaims Biden has done ‘a fabulous job’ with the economy

Having twice served as the acting chair of the Democratic National Committee, Donna Brazile is no stranger to crafting a narrative, and Sunday, that meant asking voters to ignore what they already know – as evidenced by polling presented mere moments earlier – and believe President Joe Biden had done “a fabulous job.”

During the panel discussion on ABC’s “This Week,” the results of an ABC/Washington Post poll were presented with specific attention being drawn to the 74 percent of people saying the economy is bad and that 84 percent consider it the top issue. Rather than answer host George Stephanopoulos’ question, “Is there any argument the Democrats can make that will make inflation not the top issue,” Brazile chose to deny the premise as well as reality.

“Joe Biden has really done a fabulous job, I think, in making sure that every day Americans can feel the things that he’s doing,” she offered without irony, “whether it’s lowering gas prices, making sure that our supply chain is now moving forward, he just stopped a rail strike which really would have crippled our economy.”

“So look, we know we have a big job to do in motivating people to get out to vote. But most importantly, Joe Biden is playing the long game. That’s why I’m still with Joe Biden, I’m ridin’ with Biden, baby,” she continued.

Brazile’s smug dismissal of reality came only moments after former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) had just relayed what “Americans can feel” with a story from a farmer whose economic troubles will touch every household.

“He said since Biden got into office his diesel fuel costs are up 222 percent on his farm and his nitrogen costs are up 262 percent. That’s not only bad for them and their ability to make money, but it’s going to hit us in supermarkets all over this country. This is hardly over. And that’s what these numbers are telling, people are feeling that. And they’re gonna vote that way, and that’s not good for the Democrats,” Christie concluded.

While the political strategist tried to contend that “Democrats understand that the stakes are high,” her claim is far from grounded when her own party’s leader has been out talking down the trouble of 40-year high inflation as he did on “60 Minutes” when Scott Pelley asked him, “What can you do better to lower inflation?”

“Inflation rate month to month was just up an inch,” Biden said before adding, “You’re acting like all of a sudden ‘my God it went to 8.2 percent.”

Even former White House press secretary Jen Psaki knows the narrative is key and the Democrats are going to have to spin their terrible policy outcomes to an untold extreme to have any hope of retaining a majority in November. Her insinuation, as reported, was voters choosing hyperbolic rhetoric are going to side with the Democrats but those voting based on the actual state of the union are going to choose Republicans in hopes of righting the ship.

“I think that Democrats, if the election is about who is the most extreme…then they’re going to win,” Psaki argued on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “If it is a referendum on the president, they will lose. And they know that.”
