Rep. Mondaire Jones (D-NY) falsely repeated the claim on the House floor that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was bludgeoned to death with a fire extinguisher on January 6 and was slammed for it by Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC).
The original Sicknick claim was made right after the 2021 riot took place and was even included in the Democrats’ second article of impeachment against former President Donald Trump. Eventually, The New York Times would correct the story.
Sicknick reportedly died on January 7 after he suffered two strokes and his death was ruled the result of natural causes by the medical examiner. On the night of January 6, Sicknick is said to have called his brother and told him he was fine.
Fast-forward to today when President Biden and Democrats still refer to police officers who lost their lives that day which didn’t happen. Jones claimed he didn’t want to get mired in “minutia” when he was corrected after claiming Sicknick was bludgeoned to death. Many assert that lying about police officers dying that day is not even remotely a “minute point.”

“Did you say a police officer was bludgeoned to death by the crowd at the Jan. 6 riots?” Bishop asked Jones.
“I said a police officer was bludgeoned to death. I did not say at the hands of who, Mr. Bishop,” Jones replied, attempting to nuance his statement.
“Who are you referring to, if you don’t mind saying,” Bishop continued.
“I can get that information for you in a few minutes,” Jones said, coming off as an uninformed blithering idiot and a fool.
Bishop was not going to let Jones get away with the unfounded accusation and Jones was determined to revise history that day.
“I just want to make sure…” Bishop started.

“Are you denying that at least one Capitol police officer was murdered in the midst of what happened on Jan. 6?” Jones cluelessly interjected.
“Yeah, I think I am denying… I understood there were reports early on that Sicknick was struck with a fire extinguisher and that was subsequently debunked as false. He died of natural causes that were not connected to the event. Are we talking about the same person Sicknick or are we talking about somebody else?” Bishop asked, grilling Jones.
“You know, we’re talking about ‘but for’ causation of Officer Sicknick’s death. And so I would hope you would at least concede at a minimum that Mr. Sicknick died as a result of what happened on Jan. 6 and I’m disappointed if you suggest otherwise sir,” Jones responded.
Not only does he lie about one officer being bludgeoned to death he also lies when he stated multiple officers died as a result of what happened that day. Four commited suicide. How is that a result of what happened on Jan. 6th?

It’s like a fish story! Saying that even one Capitol Police Officer died at the hands of the insurgents is proven false.. but by the end of the video “several” Capitol Police Officers died as a result of the insurgents.

Bishop bird dogged the issue and savaged Jones over it.
“Look, I don’t think that’s correct either but was he bludgeoned to death?” Bishop went on. “My understanding is that was debunked and Mr. Roy just read the medical examiner’s information. Do you guys contend he was bludgeoned to death?”
“I contend that 138 Capitol and DC police officers were injured and that multiple Capitol police officers died as a direct result of what happened on Jan. 6 and I hope that you… I hope you see how one would question the sincerity of such a minute point in the midst of the gravity of everything else,” Jones asserted.
In the end, Jones tries to dismiss his lie as “a minute point”.

It’s obvious he was using the death of Sicknick as a weaponized talking point. Unfortunately for Jones, his accusations are simply untrue according to both the New York Times and the Washington Post.
