Papa John’s founder: ‘Gov’t is now an enemy of freedom…sooner or later they’re coming’ for every dissenter

Papa John’s Pizza founder and former CEO warned Americans that conservative ideology is under attack, calling the government an “enemy of the freedoms of the people.”

Appearing on the PBD Podcast with host Patrick Bet-David, John Schnatter doubled down on his views of the current administration and the agencies at their beck and call, declaring America akin to Nazi Germany.

“You saw last night where Mike Lindell was raided by the FBI,” Schnatter said, referring to the seizure of the MyPillow founder and CEO’s phone by federal agents in a drive-through restaurant in Minnesota on Tuesday. “We now have Nazi Germany, where if you are a conservative, if you believe in conservative principles, and you’re outspoken, you’ve got the KGB.”

Bet-David asked if Schnatter really believed that and the former CEO was unequivocal in his response.

“The government is now an enemy of the freedoms of the people,” Schnatter said. “If they attacked Lindell, [former President Donald] Trump, [Mike] Flynn, Papa John…If they attack us, sooner or later they’re gonna attack every American that doesn’t believe in their ideology that has a voice.”

This is not the first time Schnatter has drawn attention with his outspoken conservative views.

A public spat with the NFL, the company’s largest sponsor at the time, over the handling of national anthem protests, led to him stepping down as CEO of the company he founded in the back of his father’s tavern in 1982

Schnatter stayed on for a time as the pizza chain’s chairman of the board but was forced to step down from that role in 2018 after he admitted to using the n-word in an exercise, following the release of recordings of internal conversations.

Papa John’s Pizza has tried to distance itself from the 1998 National Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year winner but the disgraced founder will not go quietly.

In August, during an interview with Right Side Broadcasting Network at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Schnatter said the quality of the chain’s products suffered from the loss of his Christian conservative principles.

“I think they’ve really lost their way,” Schnatter said. “It used to be an operational-driven company. Now it’s a lawyer, PR-driven company. They don’t run their company on principles and values.”

“We built the whole company on conservative values,” he continued. “Conservative ideology has two of the most critical attributes: truth and God.”

Schnatter claimed the company’s franchisees suffered the most.

“They’re losing traffic, they’re losing customers. I think the traffic count’s less than what it was when I was there six years ago. Over 40% of the stores are losing money,” he said.

Schnatter said that under his leadership, Papa John’s was rated by the American Customer Satisfaction Index as “the highest quality in the pizza category” 18 times in 19 years, Fox News reported.

“They now are down with Little Caesars,” he said. “So the thing has really got away from them.”

During the same speech in Dallas, TX, he also said that “evil forces” were controlling the world.
