Citizens of Memphis, Tenn., can breathe a little bit easier today now that police have arrested the teenage male who has been charged in a series of shootings, some that were streamed on Facebook, a shocking killing spree that rocked the city only days after the abduction and killing of a kindergarten teacher.
Around 9 pm on Wednesday night, police took 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly into custody in the city’s Whitehaven neighborhood after a high-speed chase, cutting short the brutal rampage of a repeat offender who was released after serving just 11 months of a three year prison sentence on a charge that was downgraded from attempted first-degree murder.
From the time that the rampage began at around 12:56 am on Wednesday, the killer left a trail of dead bodies across the city, shooting seven people in at least eight crime scenes, four of whom were killed before Kelly’s arrest.
The first victim was a 24-year-old man who was gunned down in the Highland Heights neighborhood. Witnesses at the scene identified the shooter as “Zeek Huncho” which was reportedly Kelly’s Facebook alias. From there, he terrorized the city, causing public bus service to be suspended and fearful residents to shelter in place. A downtown stadium where a minor-league baseball game was being played went into lockdown as television stations interrupted regular coverage to provide updates.
In one chilling video, the shooter filmed himself as he opened fire in an AutoZone and a critically wounded customer was taken to a local hospital.

Jim Strickland, the Democrat mayor of Memphis acknowledged during a press conference that “Kelly was charged with attempted first-degree murder but pled guilty to a downgraded aggravated assault charge in April 2021,” according to Fox News.
“If Mr. Kelly served his full three-year sentence, he would still be in prison today and four of our fellow citizens would still be alive,” Strickland said.
“These evil actions show why truth in sentencing is a must, and we should do all we can to make our city safe,” the mayor added. “We must unite around this principle and stand up to the challenge of violent crime in our city.”
Police provided details on the timeline of Kelly’s alleged deadly actions at Wednesday’s news conference.

The shootings will undoubtedly contribute to the tense environment of a city already on edge, plagued by a violent crime wave like so many other major U.S. cities that are under Democrat control as politicians coddle criminals and police are demonized.
Coming days after the body of murdered heiress Eliza Fletcher, a mother of two and a kindergarten teacher was abducted by another career criminal during an early morning jog, a story that made national headlines, it is understandable that nerves are frayed.

One local reporter struggled to contain her emotions while reporting on Kelly’s rampage.
“Memphis is tired right now,” she said as she fought back tears. “The Eliza Fletcher kidnapping, an abduction and murder, the other crimes we’ve had this year, leading up to this, it’s difficult right now…”

“Living in Memphis is like living in every episode of Breaking Bad,” resident Mary Dudley told the Commercial Appeal, saying that she was “not surprised” over the shootings.
Police have not yet announced any motive or if Kelly knew the victims.
