Pompeo perks ears when he suggests Trump wouldn’t stop him from running for president

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo hinted at a 2024 presidential run while attending Rep. Jeff Duncan’s Faith and Freedom Barbecue, asserting that if he decides to run, he’ll jump in no matter who is in the race.

Pompeo was obviously alluding to former President Trump. He made the comments on Monday in front of 1,500 conservatives at the South Carolina GOP event where potential presidential candidates have spoken previously in the early presidential primary state, according to The Herald.

“We’re going to make our decision based on if we think this is the right place for us to serve,” he asserted. “If I come to believe I ought to become president, that I have something to offer the American people, I will run no matter who all decides to get in and who else decides not to get in the race.”

Pompeo served as CIA director in 2017 and 2018 during the Trump presidency and as the secretary of state until 2021.

He has been hoofing it across the country in a high-profile effort to help candidates ahead of November’s midterm elections where Republicans hope to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives and possibly the Senate.

“There’s big plans for me to make sure we have a really great election this November and then we will see what the good Lord brings after that,” Pompeo declared, according to The Herald. “My wife and I are thinking, praying and trying to figure out where to serve next. It could be that we’ll decide to enter the presidential race. It may not, but we’re going to stay in this fight.”

The visit to South Carolina follows the unprecedented raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence by FBI agents.

Pompeo, who is a former Kansas congressman, branded the raid of Mar-a-Lago “a deeply politicized use of the FBI” and charged that there were other ways to get the documents. He said the Benghazi committee negotiated to get information off of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s personal server during the congressional investigation of the 2012 attack on the U.S. facilities in Libya that left four Americans dead.

“They chose a different solution, the Biden administration,” he remarked. “They chose to send FBI agents to the home of a former president. That is not the way America ought to be.”

Pompeo flatly stated that he did not take any classified information with him when he left the State Department.

“No one should have classified information out of the appropriate place for classified information anytime. Full stop. Period,” Pompeo commented.

“Don’t give an inch. Don’t let them gaslight you. Defend the things we know to be true and when we do there will be a revitalization. There will be a reclamation. There will be greatness in this nation that we have not seen before and it will be because of the work you did in your community, in your place, in your space,” Pompeo said during the event.

The former secretary of state last visited South Carolina in 2021 when he endorsed Gov. Henry McMaster for reelection and spoke at the SC GOP’s annual Silver Elephant Gala.

Previous speakers at the prestigious political barbecue have included former Vice President Mike Pence, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Sens. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, and Rand Paul, and former Governors Scott Walker and Nikki Haley.
