CNN climate correspondent deletes ‘poorly worded’ tweet accusing GOP of hastening Earth’s doom

Climate alarmists pushing their green agenda would have you accept at face value that the science is settled and there is no room for debate as they foresee extinction-level events if actions aren’t taken to satisfy their tree-hugger turned corporate lobbyist friends.

Yet one climate correspondent who ratcheted the extremism up to 11 in a recent tweet felt the need to delete his post after pushback.

On Friday, CNN’s climate correspondent Bill Weir reacted to the news that the so-called Inflation Reduction Act had passed through Congress on party lines. Misnomer aside, one might expect the legislation that allocates roughly half of its nearly three quarters of a trillion dollars in spending toward green initiatives would be pleased.

However, Weir remained all gloom and doom as he wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “Not a single Republican in either chamber voted for the first piece of ambitious climate legislation in U.S. history. Best case, they let their opponents become the party of Industrial Revolution 2.0. Worst case, their obstruction hastens the end of a livable Earth.”

Not only did the CNN correspondent delete the post, he issued an apology shortly thereafter and explained, “Deleted a tweet that was poorly worded and did not land as intended. Apologies.”

This extremist rhetoric is nothing new for Weir who, as recently as late July had touted similar stakes when discussing his belief, before Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) had agreed with Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), that President Joe Biden take executive measures to ram through the “needed” measures to address climate change.

“It’s interesting that the letter from staffers, part of their plea, is please get Joe Manchin to change his mind. This is hung up on an old-fashioned filibuster, sort of recent made-up American rules where the fate of life on earth is at stake,” he told CNN’s Jim Sciutto and Poppy Harlow.

“Now, if this were F.D.R., if this were the 40s, if this was after Pearl Harbor,” Weir suggested, “maybe you would nationalize in the way that they tried to get Ford and Chevy to make ventilators for COVID. Why not throw the military might behind that? Why not use the military’s footprints as a symbol of a transition?”

It’s impossible to know whether the zealotry of his statement received more or less attention after deleting it than if he had just let it be, but in either way the partisanship was blatant and social media users didn’t let the correspondent slide with a meager apology.

Of course, we were told almost four years ago by MSNBC’s Chuck Todd that the debate on climate was over and that there should be no voice given to “climate deniers.”

“We’re not going to debate climate change, the existence of it,” he said while hosting a special on the subject. “The Earth is getting hotter. And human activity is a major cause, period. We’re not going to give time to climate deniers. The science is settled, even if political opinion is not.”

Despite what Todd may have claimed, the new brass at CNN with president Chris Licht at the helm may not view the matter quite the same as many suggested the retraction was less than voluntary.
