The incident took place in Los Angeles on Friday around 12 pm. Heche, the ex-girlfriend of comedian Ellen DeGeneres is hospitalized after being severely burned and is in critical condition, according to TMZ. She is expected to pull through but is intubated after the crash.

“The crash went down just after noon in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles. Witnesses tell TMZ, she was driving a blue Mini Cooper and crashed into the garage of an apartment complex,” the media outlet reported. The wild ride was caught on video.

When Heche, 53, crashed into the garage door of the apartment complex, residents attempted to get her out of her car but she put it in reverse and sped off.

Pictures and video showed Heche looking out of it behind the wheel after the first crash, with one witness reportedly capturing her with a bottle with a red top on it in her car. It is not clear what was in the container.

Shortly after that, the car can be seen via a Ring video speeding down a street before horrifically crashing into another home, setting the structure on fire and engulfing the car in flames as it exploded. Firefighters were seen dragging the actress from the wreckage.

Other shocking images show the burnt-out wreckage of her Mini Cooper as it was towed out of the destroyed home across the road from a school in the Mar Vista area.

The Los Angeles Fire Department asserted that it took 59 firefighters 65 minutes to put out the “stubborn flames” and “rescue one female adult found within the vehicle.”

“The house was tons of smoke. I think they used the crane to move the car to extract the driver. It was crazy,” one witness told NBC Los Angeles.

In footage showing Heche being taken to the hospital, her clothes are charred and it is apparent she was significantly burned in the accident. Paramedics covered her in white cloth and then she appeared to suddenly sit up on the stretcher as it was being loaded. She appeared to flail her arms as they put her into the ambulance.

“We really had a multifaceted incident here,” LAFD Capt. Erik Scott stated. “We had a significant traffic collision, we had entrapment of a woman inside that, we had car that erupted into fire, and then we had a home that had significant fire that is red tagged. It’s at this point destroyed.”

“Her condition prevents doctors from performing any tests to determine if she was driving under the influence of alcohol,” TMZ reported.

No one else was reportedly hurt in the incident. The homeowner was present and a neighbor got her two small dogs and tortoise out of the home as it went up in flames.

In 2000, just hours after she broke up with Ellen DeGeneres, Heche was found on a property in Fresno, California. She showed up at a random home making wild statements that led to a brief hospitalization.

“She proceeded to tell me that she was God and was going to take everyone back to heaven with her in some sort of spaceship,” a witness stated at the time, according to ABC News.
