Brutal footage shows 16-yr-old battle NYC cop with blows and chokehold, then city lets him walk

A bloody brawl was caught on video over the weekend showing a vicious teenage thug punching and choking an NYPD officer on a subway platform in East Harlem before he was arrested only to be released hours later.

New York City’s lax bail laws allowed the 16-year-old to walk, according to the Daily Mail. The boy was charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction of governmental administration, and resisting arrest. By the looks of the video, many feel he should have been charged with attempted murder for his actions.

The boy was confronted by the officer when he allegedly jumped over the turnstile at 125th Street-Lexington Avenue station in East Harlem just before 6 pm on Saturday. He was told to leave. Then the teen went wildly violent before he was finally arrested.

President of the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York Patrick Lynch stated, “If New Yorkers want to know why the chaos in the transit system is not improving more quickly — this is why. The criminals underground know they can get in a brawl, choke a cop and be back out in hours. Cops are putting ourselves on the line to make the subways safer, but we are feeling abandoned by a justice system that won’t back us up.”

“The 16-year-old male became verbally aggressive for over three minutes with officers,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “The officers attempted to take the 16-year-old male into custody when he began to assault the officers.”

Brutal footage shows the teen punching the cop in the head over and over and then grabbing him around the neck in a chokehold and slamming him repeatedly into metal railings. The boy’s face was covered in blood after the officer fought back.

The footage ended after the officer forcibly held the teenage boy down on the floor of the station.

A 16-year-old girl was also involved in the beating of the officers involved in the altercation. She allegedly ducked under the turnstile with the boy. She reportedly attempted to drag officers off the boy while viciously punching them.

A female officer managed to get a hold of the girl and drag her away from the fight. The girl fought with that officer as well.

The man who recorded the video claims that an officer was the one who got physical first, according to NBC New York.

“From what I saw and other witnesses saw, the cop did shove him back there,” asserted Matthew Rue.

He said that the male officer and his partner went over to the two teens because they were arguing loudly in the station, not because they jumped the turnstile.

“She’s a female, he’s a guy, they were just making sure she was OK,” Rue stated and then accused the officer of trying to push the teen girl out of the station.

“He initially calmly asked the cop to apologize,” Rue remarked concerning the teen.

“What’s going through my mind is, ‘I hope this kid doesn’t die,” the guy commented.

Since the attacker is a minor, he cannot be publicly identified.

He had previously been busted for possession of a loaded gun and robbery. However, the young thug was released on his own recognizance on Sunday after appearing in court. The girl was arrested on the same charges as the boy.

“Arrested with a gun, he walks out. Fights with a police officer, he walks out. What’s next, does he shoot someone? Kill someone?” asked former NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan, who is now a contributor for NBC New York.

“One officer suffered swelling to his head and shoulder and was treated and released at NYU. The other officer was also treated and released at NYU,” a police statement reported.
