‘Like mob bosses’: Fox News host says media is ‘carpet bombing Biden’ in political hit job

Fox News’ Howard Kurtz took notice of the “media’s political hit job” to discredit President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump before the 2024 election season in what he said “feels like an orchestrated campaign.”

“I’ve never seen anything remotely like it, the media are trying to knock President Biden out of the running for a second term,” Kurtz said on Sunday’s episode of “MediaBuzz.”

“If the media were a political organization, as some of their critics believe, we’d say they’re carpet bombing Joe Biden, trying to damage him to the point where he can’t run again,” the former newspaper journalist said.

Even left-leaning CNN has had to admit that Biden has the worst polling numbers in history because “inflation is eating [the Biden] presidency alive at this point,” reporter Harry Enten said last week. He added that it’s only getting worse “as more people are concerned about inflation, Joe Biden’s disapproval rating climbs ever higher.”

Kurtz’s skepticism of the media coverage extended to both sides of the political aisle, arguing that it was clear that “the media are also attempting to disqualify Donald Trump, on grounds of shrinking support in his party. Far less surprising but still happening. The press does not want a rematch.”

Kurtz recalled the generous coverage Biden received during the 2020 campaign season because of the key trait he possessed of not being Trump.

“Remember how everyone thought the media would go easy on Biden because, basically, he’s not Trump? That’s now out the window. Just look at one newspaper: Sunday’s New York Times. Biden’s age is a big problem,” 68-year-old Kurtz said.

“Polls show many Americans consider Mr. Biden too old, and some Democratic strategists do not think he should run again. Monday’s New York Times, most Democrats don’t want Biden to run in 2024 new poll shows,” he said. “That figure, 64 percent. Tuesday, a Times columnist pleads with Biden not to run.”

Then Kurtz brought the receipts to show that the media is trying to shake Trump off the 2024 campaign trail as well.

“Tuesday’s Times, half of GOP voters ready to leave Trump behind, poll finds, and a significant number vowing to abandon him if he wins the nomination,” he said.

Kurtz argued that the media is meeting a minimum obligation to report on the poor Biden polling numbers and the effects of the Jan 6 sham hearings on Trump’s chances of reelection but asked his viewers, “who exactly anointed journalists to try to muscle candidates out of the presidential race and more than two years early, if they’re damaged, they think they can’t win, maybe they’ll decide against running.”

“But too many in the news media are acting like mob bosses and are sacrificing what remains of their credibility,” he concluded.
