Swimmer Lia Thomas made headlines again as the man who identifies as a woman is in the running to snag another award away from elite female competitors thanks to a woke university.
In March, Thomas became the poster child for transgender activists demanding “inclusivity” by finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle of the Women’s NCAA Division I championship. Now, the athlete who began his college career as a mediocre swimmer for the University of Pennsylvania’s men’s team is being honored by the Ivy League institution with a nomination for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
According to the NCAA nomination page, of the 577 graduating “female student-athletes” nominated for the honor, UPenn had nominated two with Division I Tennis player Iuliia Bryzgalova joining Thomas.
“Established in 1991,” they described, “the award recognizes female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.”
The site went on to highlight the 50th anniversary of Title IX this year before detailing how schools “are encouraged to celebrate their top graduating female student-athletes by nominating them for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.”
The nominees will be whittled down to 30 who will be celebrated at the 2023 NCAA Convention held in San Antonio, TX in January before further breaking down into nine finalists, three from each division. However, only one will be named the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year.
Despite support from progressives with help from corporate media downplaying the negative impacts, Thomas was not embraced by the female athletes she competed against. University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines had tied Thomas for fifth in the 200-yard freestyle at the NCAA championships and expressed her outrage at having to race against a biological male on the podcast “Unmuted with Marsha,” hosted by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)
“The majority of us female athletes, or females in general, really, are not okay with this,” she said speaking on behalf of others who have remained silent in fear of retribution from cancel culture mobs, “and they’re not okay with the trajectory of this and how this is going and how it could end up in a few years.”
The decision from UPenn to honor Thomas with the nomination followed a similar woke attempt at normalization performed by USA Today when they named U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine, a transgender using a background as a pediatrician to promote life-altering genital mutilation surgeries to children in the name of “gender-affirming care,” one of their “Women of the Year” in March.
The Babylon Bee ridiculed the story with their spot-on satire by honoring Levine as their first ever “Man of the Year” which has left them unapologetically kicked off Twitter ever since.

While at the time of this posting, the Bee had not yet produced a story with reaction to Thomas’ nomination from UPenn, their CEO Seth Dillon quoted the NCAA’s explanation of the award and offered up a one-word question, “Female?”
"The award is designed to recognize 'female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in their community, in athletics and in academics throughout their college careers.'"

Others were less subtle in response to the news.
UPenn must have forgotten that in order to qualify for the NCAA Woman of the Year award, one must actually be a woman.
There is nothing brave about competing against people whom you have a biological advantage over.
Shame on them for nominating Lia Thomas. pic.twitter.com/RNyEOGwLjs
