Actor Tim Allen recently said “There’s really no ‘Toy Story’ Buzz without Woody.” Now the voice of the animated cowboy sheriff himself, two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, has offered a similar sentiment contending there may be no “Buzz” without Allen when he decried Disney Pixar’s decision to cast Chris Evans in place of Allen stating, “I don’t understand that.”
Like Allen, Hanks had seemingly remained mum on the issue of the studio’s direction with the franchise until he recently sat down with CinemaBlend to discuss the new biopic “Elvis” in which he plays rock and roll icon Elvis Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Released two weeks after Disney Pixar’s “Lightyear” debuted, the acclaimed actor was asked to weigh in on what it was like to have a film in theaters at the same time as one stemming from the franchise he was so integral to.
“How about that?” Hanks began before lamenting Allen wasn’t the star.

“Actually, I wanted to go head-to-head with Tim Allen and then they didn’t let Tim Allen do it. I don’t understand that,” he stated, seemingly perplexed by the casting decisions.
Allen recently explained that he had thus far avoided weighing in on fans’ displeasure with Chris Evans taking the title role in the new film as it was so different from the core franchise, “It came up in one of the sessions what a fun movie that would be…but the brass that did the first four movies is not this, it’s a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies.”

“It’s a wonderful story, it just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy,” Allen noted and further stated. “It has no relationship to Buzz.”
That missing relationship is suspected to only be a small part of the lackluster success for the film as Disney’s woke agenda has permeated their content. Shortly after “Lightyear” was released, featuring a previously edited-out lesbian kiss, Evans defended the content and decried those in opposition.

“The real truth is those people are idiots. Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good,” Evans said before contending detractors were “dinosaurs.”
However, Evans feels, it has not been good for the film that has struggled to draw the anticipated box office for a movie of its kind. As a result, Hanks may have inadvertently taken a shot at Disney’s culture when he further stated, “But here’s the thing is, just as long as people come back to the motion picture theater. I want to go back to the theater with a bunch of strangers and leave with something in common.”
He closed with a statement of support for Allen’s career adding, “That’s what I want to do and going, going to see a movie with him – I’m looking forward to that.”
