Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot hypocritically decried what she called “toxicity in public discourse” just days after she railed at a Pride event, “F*ck Clarence Thomas!” for overturning the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade.
Her call for civility occurred at an event on Tuesday as the mayor criticized attacks on police officers in Chicago. Lightfoot ironically called it a sign of people “losing respect for the institutions of our democracy.”
“That says to me that the people who are acting so brazenly have not only no respect for themselves, but they don’t have respect for the institution like the police department, who men and women every single day on every watch, are literally risking life and limb for our safety,” she proclaimed.
“But toxicity in our public discourse is a thing that I think we should all be concerned about, right?” Lightfoot asserted, lacking any self-awareness whatsoever.

“You know, we’re not like a lot of other countries where their version of Independence Day is marked with troops and tanks. No, what we do in the United States is come together as a community,” the mayor commented.
Lightfoot briefly touched on the Highland Park massacre over the Fourth of July that resulted in seven dead and over 30 wounded. She then doubled down on the importance of “community” and hypocritically admonished people to “respect” each other and “focus on what brings us together and not what tears us apart.”
“That’s the thing I think that concerns me the most about what we’re seeing, really over the arc of these last two years- I get it. People are angry. They are frustrated. And they’re fearful,” Lightfoot stated. “But we can’t let those things mean that we lose sight of each other’s humanity. We’ve got to find a common sense and a purpose.”
“Every single person has a role to play in healing the wounds that are plaguing us in our country. And I just pray every single day that each of us will stand up and have that bravery of self and soul to do what is right in this moment. Because we desperately need that kind of healing,” she later declared, without addressing her vicious and profane attack against the originalist Supreme Court justice.

During the Pride event, Lightfoot shouted into a microphone onstage, “If you read Clarence Thomas’ concurrence…” Then someone yelled at her from the audience and she replied, “Thank you. F*ck Clarence Thomas. He thinks that we are going to stand idly by while they take our rights – our right to marry – our right to have children – our right to live.”
Lightfoot is Chicago’s first openly gay mayor. She got her dander up after Thomas suggested that the overturning of Roe v. Wade could cause the revisiting of other case law such as the ruling on gay marriage.
When the leak from the Supreme Court concerning the overturning of Roe v. Wade occurred, the mayor incited those on the left over it.
“To my friends in the LGBTQ+ community—the Supreme Court is coming for us next. This moment has to be a call to arms,” she tweeted. “We will not surrender our rights without a fight—a fight to victory!”

Not only is Lightfoot not sorry for what she said about Justice Thomas, she’s using her tirade to fundraise.
“Clarence Thomas has proven himself over and over again – particularly in that concurring opinion – that he is somebody who doesn’t care or respect the rights of anyone except for himself,” she asserted after accepting the endorsements of three members of the Illinois congressional delegation.
“And frankly, given what he and his wife have done in fomenting the insurrection of Jan. 6 is shameful. Frankly, what I’d like to see him do is step down from the Supreme Court,” Lightfoot toxically said, according to ABC 7.
“I don’t think it’s being a bully. I think it’s speaking the truth. This is a guy who doesn’t care about women’s rights. This is a guy who is attacking affirmative action. … There was a recent article I read about him. He literally described himself as a termite. Somebody who is lurking in the basement eating away at the foundation of other peoples’ houses,” she charged.
“Think about that as somebody who is a Supreme Court justice who describes himself as somebody who is literally … laying in wait to destroy other peoples’ homes and foundations. No apologies about what I said about Clarence Thomas. It’s time in this country that we speak the truth about men in positions of power who are undermining our way of life. And he, to me, is Exhibit A of that,” Lightfoot said, doubling and tripling down on her hatred for Thomas.
The leftist mayor tweeted a photo of herself pointing toward an audience member’s T-shirt bearing the same profane statement that she uttered at Thomas, unapologetically stating, “I said what I said.”

The city of Chicago experienced a horrifically violent Independence Day weekend where at least eight people were killed. Lightfoot says they’re making improvements in public safety, all evidence to the contrary.
The holiday weekend saw a total of 68 reported shootings, including eight fatalities, and a number of the shootings resulted in no arrests, according to The Center Square.
