Hacktivists are taking direct aim at anti-abortion states and pro-life entities, declaring war on them and stealing data after the overturning of the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court.
A shadowy, new-to-the-game group called SeigedSec has released troves of government data and claims more cyberattacks are coming.
The group posted between seven and eight gigabytes of data online Saturday that it claims was taken from government servers in Kentucky and Arkansas because they purportedly passed bans against abortion except when the mother’s life is at risk following the Supreme Court ruling.
SiegedSec announced that it had accessed the government data in a Telegram post. The group provided screenshots of what appeared to be lines of addresses and a scanned copy of a financial form with personally identifiable information on it. They claim the data includes government workers’ personal information and that this is just the beginning.

“THE ATTACKS WILL CONTINUE!” The hackers vowed via their Telegram post. “Our main targets are any pro-life entities, including government servers of the states with anti-abortion laws.”
Dark web security service DarkOwl asserts that the group has emerged as a result of the Ukrainian war with Russia.
They considered SiegedSec as “a fairly small-scale operation flying under the radar” that “has the potential to evolve into a high-consequential cyber threat.” However, that stance is now being reevaluated as they have become a major threat.

The group was discovered by security researchers in February and has since provided evidence that it has gained access to sensitive information and leaked emails from 30 different companies, according to reports. The researchers note that the group does not appear to have a pattern when it comes to choosing targets. They have reportedly targeted companies across the globe and hit business sectors including healthcare, IT, and finance.
SiegedSec claims to have accessed and defaced more than 100 different websites this year. Several thousand LinkedIn profiles also appear to have been accessed by the hackers, according to Newsweek.

Hackers have already accessed state databases and are dumping them online, unredacted. Telegram may be their choice for sharing those files.

The group reportedly hasn’t publicly asked for a ransom yet for the mined data that it has released. But they definitely don’t intend to stop. SiegedSec is allegedly linked to GhostSec, which is a prominent dark web hacker group that has been active in targeting Russian organizations during the war in Ukraine.
Declaring that it is “time for some hacktivism,” SiegedSec proclaimed, according to TechMonitor, “Like many, we are also pro-choice, one shouldn’t be denied access to abortion.”
“As added pressure to the US government, we have leaked many internal documents and files retrieved from Kentucky’s and Arkansas’ government servers. These docs have plenty of employee PII (personally identifiable information) and lots more,” they continued in their statement.
“Keep protesting, keep yourself safe,” SeigeSec’s Telegram statement urged and then concluded with an adamant, “F*** the government.”
SiegedSec also reassured its followers that while pursuing its Roe v Wade hacktivism the group will “still do blackhat stuff,” referring to its more common activities that entail stealing data from private sector companies.
