Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was heartbroken and furious after reports that 46 illegal immigrants died in an 18-wheeler in San Antonio, blaming President Biden and his immigration policies for the horrific deaths.

On Monday, authorities found the truck which was capable of carrying up to 100 people. The victims were reportedly hot to the touch and many were already deceased. Three individuals have now been arrested following the tragedy, according to San Antonio Police Chief William P. McManus.

Abbott tweeted on Monday evening, “At Least 42 People Found Dead Inside Truck Carrying Migrants In Texas. These deaths are on Biden.” That number would later rise to 46.

“They are a result of his deadly open border policies. They show the deadly consequences of his refusal to enforce the law,” the Republican governor added.

A number of Texan officials also laid the blame at Biden’s feet for the deaths due to his immigration policies. Among the loudest and angriest over the deaths was Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who called the incident “horrific” and “wrong.”

“How many more people have to die before Dems give a damn?” he demanded on Twitter.

Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) also spoke up concerning the tragedy.

“Today in San Antonio it was 102 degrees. Imagine being abandoned inside an 18-wheeler left to die – 42 people died today – will @AliMayorkas even mention their names?” he asked, referring to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

“Death count rises to 46 with another 16 in the hospital, to include 4 kids. Lord when will the nightmare end,” Gonzales wondered in another tweet.

He also called for Mayorkas to resign.

“I am heartbroken by the tragic loss of life today and am praying for those still fighting for their lives,” Mayorkas tweeted. “Far too many lives have been lost as individuals – including families, women, and children – take this dangerous journey.”

He also stated that ICE is investigating the matter and then called human traffickers and smugglers “callous individuals who have no regard for the vulnerable people they exploit and endanger in order to make a profit.”

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg (I-Texas) blamed Biden’s border policies as well.

“We know that there’s been increasing volumes [of migrants] over the last 6 months, 12 months related, you know, to the policies,” he noted, according to Fox News, “but our work, again, is to provide humanitarian assistance.”

He called the devastating discovery “nothing short of a horrific human tragedy.”

“The plight of migrants seeking refuge is always a humanitarian crisis but tonight we are dealing with a horrific human tragedy,” the mayor stated.

“This is a far different situation than what we’ve seen,” he remarked. “Our job is not to ask why, our job is to ask how we can help.”

The Archbishop of San Antonio, Gustavo Garcia Siller, also asked Biden’s administration to reconsider immigration reform in the country, because “it is killing people and destroying lives.”

“Once again, the lack of courage to deal with immigration reform is killing and destroying lives. We do not learn. God teach us to change. Humanity is at stake constantly. We pray, we love, we trust. Give us strength! We want to do your will,” he tweeted.

The deaths follow Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) describing the border situation as “overrun,” “out of control” and “dangerous.”

“There is going to be deaths,” Biggs told Harris Faulkner during an interview on “The Faulkner Focus” on June 21.

“It’s more than the monthly total who were sent to Mexico to await their asylum process, which, by the way, in most cases is going to be bogus. That’s what’s going on in the borders. It’s overrun right now,” Biggs asserted.

“All of that horrific inhumanity that goes on when you don’t secure your border,” he continued.

A reported 16 people, including four children, were found alive in the truck and were taken to a hospital.
