Nancy Pelosi shoves Republican Mayra Flores’ little girl during swearing in

The swearing-in ceremony for newly-elected Rep. Mayra Flores (R-Texas) was held Tuesday and a video of the event left the freshman congresswoman leveling accusations against how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) behaves herself around children.

Flores, 30, was joined by her husband, a U.S. Border Patrol agent, and their children in Washington, D.C. as they journeyed to the Capitol for her official swearing-in ceremony. The first Mexican-born member of Congress was voted in after a June 15 special election to replace Rep. Filemon Vela (D-Texas) who retired before completing the term.

The historic nature of the occasion appeared lost on Pelosi as the group gathered for photos and, though she commented on Flores’ “beautiful family” that had accompanied her, the video showed the speaker to be less than keen on being near the kids.

At normal speed and in slow-motion, Pelosi can be seen elbowing Flores’ daughter to shove her aside and maintain distance during the photo op. The video had gathered traction on social media with many weighing in on the speaker’s “witchy” behavior, including actor James Woods who lauded the young girl as he decried Pelosi, “I love this princess stood her ground, while Nancy showed her true colors.”

Flores praised her daughter for the composure displayed as well and carefully chided Pelosi without leveling a direct accusation, stating, “I am so proud of my strong, beautiful daughter for not allowing this to faze her. She continued to smile and pose for the picture like a Queen. No child should be pushed to the side for a photo op. PERIOD!!”

Many were quick to use Pelosi’s own words against her for her “wretched” action and, as Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) had done, captioned the video with her quote, “It’s about the children.”

The New York Post’s Miranda Devine also wrote, “Wow. Shows you who Pelosi really is. ‘For the children’.”

Others simply called her out for acting in such a terrible fashion to a child, especially at such a major event for the family.

During the ceremony, Pelosi remarked, “It’s a great honor to welcome Congresswoman Flores to the Capitol and to the Congress of the United States with great congratulations. And again, grateful for her leadership and her beautiful family who is here today.”

She went on to add, “Thank you Congresswoman Flores for your courage to run for office and best wishes for your success. It’s an honor to work with you.”

However, the niceties were evidently just that as Pelosi’s shove demonstrated, and some wondered if she is willing to do that out in the open, how awful must she act when she knows the cameras are turned off?

Flores will face Democratic nominee Vicente Gonzales in November in her first reelection effort.
