An Ohio father reeling from the loss of his three-year-old son and the child’s mother aimed to issue forth his own justice against the alleged murderer when he assaulted the suspect during a court hearing Thursday.

Nyteisha Lattimore, 29, and her three-year-old son Nylo Lattimore were reported dead after she was fatally stabbed in her apartment in Hamilton County, Ohio on Dec. 5, 2020. A week later her body was found near the Ohio River after an extensive search, the remains of Nylo were never located, according to WLWT.

Now, facing “two count of aggravated murder with a death penalty specification, one count of gross abuse of a corpse and one count of tampering with evidence,” Desean Brown, 22, who was said to be in a relationship with Lattimore is standing trial.

The alleged killer was at his pretrial hearing when Tonio Hughes, the father of Nylo, rose from his seat at the back of the courtroom and rushed toward the defense table where he began to repeatedly punch Brown.

Hamilton County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer (PIO) Kyla Woods told WXIX that Hughes struck Brown in the right side of his head before two sheriff’s deputies had managed to restrain him. After he was handcuffed, Hughes continued to attempt to assault Brown until he was ushered out of the courtroom.

“Everything inside him, just the pain and everything took over. He did what I think any of us would do,” Hughes’s family friend Faith Burton said to WXIX. “I’ve had to be on late-night calls because he’s on edge, you know? He’s on the verge. I couldn’t live without my child either, you know? So I get his emotions, I get why he acted out in court today.”

Judge Megan Shanahan ruled Hughes in contempt of court and sentenced him to seven days at Hamilton County Justice Center. PIO Woods issued a statement on the decision and said, “Judge Megan Shanahan and the Hamilton Sheriff’s Office would like to emphasize that this behavior will not be tolerated in the courthouse.”

WXIX reported that Brown allegedly purchased a body bag on eBay and then took an Uber to the Ohio River, informing the driver that the contents of the bag were clothes of his and that he was moving out. Prosecutors detailed that Nylo’s blood was found on a Paw Patrol blanket with Nyteisha’s body and that his stroller was found in the Ohio River where it is believed Nylo tragically ended up.

Jamecia Cobb, a close friend of Brown, reportedly testified that Nyteisha had suffered a miscarriage while pregnant with Brown’s child and that he had confided his own desire to harm Nylo. Cincinnati police specialist Kimberly Kelley testified, “Mr. Brown had told Jamecia Cobb that he was very upset and that since she killed their baby, he was going to do something to her baby Nylo.”

The suspect, whose next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 29, is being held without bail at the same justice center as Hughes.
