‘Liar! Liar! Liar!’: Dave Portnoy blasts NFL’s Roger Goodell as he’s grilled in front of Congress by Jim Jordan

The founder of Barstool Sports bluntly called NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell a liar after he told Rep. Jim Jordan in front of Congress that he had no idea why Dave Portnoy was banned from games.

Jordan asked Goodell during testimony, “Why do you ban Dave Portnoy from NFL games? He’s a journalist. In fact, he’s a sports journalist. Why is he banned?”

“Congressman, I’m not familiar with that issue,” Goodell disingenuously responded.

“Really?” Jordan stated, obviously not buying what the commissioner was selling.

“I’m happy to check with my staff but I’m unaware of that,” Goodell added.

Jordan also went on to state, “I mean, he interviewed the President of the United States. Interviewed President Trump in the White House. Seems to me if you can get into the White House, you should be able to get into a football game – frankly, as a member of the press and the sports press. You don’t know anything about that?”

Goodell replied, “I don’t, sir.”

“LIAR! LIAR! LIAR! YOU CAN’T LIE LIE LIE! HITLER!” Portnoy angrily tweeted in response to Goodell’s statement.

Barstool Sports being banned from NFL games is not a new development. It happened back in 2015 after the group protested at NFL headquarters and then wouldn’t leave when told to do so. The protest was over then-New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s suspension for his participation in Deflategate. Portnoy is an ardent Patriots fan and was making a statement by protesting.

After the dustup at NFL headquarters, Portnoy proceeded to distribute 70,000 towels that featured Goodell’s face with a clown nose on them.

The feud has been ongoing. In 2018, Portnoy and Eric Sollenberger slipped unnoticed into Super Bowl Media Day. They interviewed a number of players before being arrested.

“Both Sollenberger and Portnoy disguised themselves and made fake media badges to ensure they would not be stopped by security,” Sportskeeda recounted. “Portnoy would wear a hat and a fake mustache and go under the name Frannie Lydon. Barstool Sports founder would go further by having a ‘I heart Roger Goodell’ on the hat he was wearing.”

It didn’t end there either. In 2019, Portnoy was bounced from the Super Bowl.

“Video shared on Barstool’s Instagram page shows a group of security guards swarming around Portnoy, then grabbing and literally carrying him out of the stadium as his feet flopped against its stairs,” Boston magazine stated regarding the incident.

Given the number of high-profile incidents with Portnoy, it is highly unlikely that Goodell was unaware of his being banned from games.

Following Goodell’s testimony, Portnoy took a swipe at the commissioner, “Adolf Hitler. Kim Jong-un. Henry Blodget. Roger Goodell. The Mount Rushmore of despicably evil leaders. Today Roger Goodell erased any doubt that he belongs on that list after he committed perjury, lying under oath to the US government.”

“We’ll take ‘Big Fat Lies’ for $2000, Alex,” Portnoy further snarked following Goodell’s assertion of ignorance over the banning.

Portnoy proceeded to call Goodell’s statements “hogwash” and then sarcastically quipped, “We’re not sure what the punishment for lying to the US government and American people should be. But you have to assume the death penalty is on the table. In the meantime, Portnoy will continue to defend the First Amendment of the US Constitution and help bring truth to all Americans.”
