Pete Hegseth writes ‘return to sender’ on Harvard U degree, admits mom going to be ‘very’ mad

“Fox & Friends’ co-host Pete Hegseth has followed through on his vow to return his Harvard University masters-degree diploma as a form of symbolic protest against “poisonous” Ivy League educational institutions that have devolved into radical-left indoctrination factories.

During the Saturday morning broadcast in the video clip embedded above, he pulled the diploma from its ornate frame and actually wrote, among other things, “return to sender” on it, along with his signature, as a way to disapprove of the university’s “fake prestige.”

“People will say ‘this is just a stunt; you still have a degree,’ and that’s fine. I went, I got the degree. I walked to the classes and all that, but I hope this is a statement that as conservatives and patriots, if we love this country, we can’t keep sending our kids and elevating them to universities that are poisoning their mind,” Hegseth explained about this form of performance art.

“And I may have survived it, and thank goodness, but a lot of kids go there and buy into ‘critical theory university,’ and that’s how we get future leaders, Supreme Court justices, senators, others, who see America as an evil place. And Harvard is a factory for that kind of thinking.”

A coveted Ivy League degree, particularly from Harvard, is usually the essential credential, if not a rite of passage, to obtain cushy jobs in media, academia, or politics that don’t require much heavy lifting.

There’s an old adage, moreover, about pompous, arrogant Ivy Leaguers that states, “You can always tell a Harvard man [or woman], but you can’t tell him much.”

According to Fox News, “A recent poll by the Harvard University student newspaper, The Crimson, found that very few graduating students lean conservative…It found that 4% of graduates from the class of 2022 lean conservative, and 2.4% lean ‘very conservative.’ It also surveyed the students about what their politics were before attending Harvard and found that 7.1% of the graduating class identified as conservative before attending the college.”

While sitting for Sean Hannity on his show on Friday evening, Hegseth’s colleague Rachel Campos-Duffy had playfully “doubled-dared” him to send back the parchment to the Cambridge, Mass-based university.

The next morning, on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Hegseth acknowledged that he wrote in his 2020 book “America Crusade” that “When the time is right – mark my words — Harvard University will be getting the diploma it gave me back from me.”

As alluded to above, sitting next to Campos-Duffy and Will Cain on an outside set, Hegseth — who attended Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government on the G.I. Bill — said it was go time.

“I don’t want to elevate the prestige of Harvard, considering what Harvard has become. The head chaplain at Harvard today…is an atheist. This was a university founded by John Harvard with the original motto of ‘for the glory of Christ.’ When you look at the ubiquitousness of critical theory, of Marxist thinking, of racist thinking, frankly, inside Harvard, why are we holding it up as the vanguard of what is the imprimatur of what makes someone credible or something we should seek?” Hegseth wondered rhetorically.

Hegseth went to say that he worked hard to get the degree and had some good professors, but his report card about Harvard included the realization that it was “all left wing, all climate change, all government schemes…I wanted to go to the elite place to check the box. ‘I went to Harvard, so I must know something, and I must have credibility automatically as a result’….we need to elevate other institutions…”

The Iran and Afghanistan vet admitted that his mom and his wife probably won’t be pleased with the parchment protest.

Campos-Duffy and Cain philosophically and literally co-signed it, however, on camera.

Hegseth said he is not quite ready to return his Princeton undergraduate certificate because of a hope for a nascent “conservative renaissance” there.
