Taxpayers in New York City have been footing the bill to send drag queens to events all over the city – including public schools where the over-the-top cross-dressers read LGBT-themed books to children as young as 3 years old.
Drag Story Hour NYC (formerly Drag Queen Story Hour NYC) is a non-profit that promotes drag queens, drag kings and drag things in the Big Apple and has raked in $207,000 in taxpayer funds since 2018, according to the New York Post.
Records show that for the month of May alone, the organization made $46,000 on its contracts with the city to appear at public schools, libraries and street festivals.
Drag Story Hour NYC touts on their website that a total of 49 drag programs reaching 34 public schools have been organized this calendar year that they market as “fun and fabulous educational experiences, our programs celebrate gender diversity and all forms of difference to build empathy and give kids the confidence to express themselves however they feel comfortable.”

“I can’t believe this. I am shocked,” said Helen Qui, mother of an 11-year-old Manhattan middle schooler and candidate for state Assembly. “I would be furious if he was exposed without my consent. This is not part of the curriculum.”
The book list includes titles like the classic “Where the Wild Things Are,” as well as brightly illustrated gender-fluid-based stories like, “The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish.”
City records show that $157,000 was funneled by the city’s Departments of Youth and Community Development, Education, Cultural Affairs, and somehow even the Department of Transportation. The New York State Council on the Arts threw another $50,000 their way.

A City Council member from Queens vocally opposed the grooming sessions in public schools and threatened to pull funding from any school in her district promoting drag queens.
“I am considering pulling funding to any school in my district that is implementing Drag Queen Story Hour,” Vickie Paladino said, “We are taking hundreds of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of hardworking New York taxpayers… to fund a program teaching little children about their gender fluidity? Not. On. My. Watch.”

The Department of Education (DOE) ignored a request about whether the drag queens underwent background checks but contended that providing the program is life-saving.
“Last year, 50 transgender or gender-nonconforming people were killed in the United States due to their identity,” Suzan Sumer, a spokesperson for the DOE said. “We believe our schools play a critical role in helping young people learn about and respect people who may be different from them.”

Some parents supported the idea of exposing their children to the controversial figures.
“I’m glad to see all types of people included in what students are exposed to and learn in class,” said Kristen Williams, mother of an 11-year-old at East Village Middle School.
