J6 committee Dem whines to CNN about Fox News not carrying show trial: ‘Cancel culture on steroids’

In the aftermath of Nancy Pelosi’s January 6th select committee’s nationally televised live primetime hearings which despite blanket coverage drew lackluster ratings, one committee member is whining that Fox News declined to air the spectacle.

Democrat Zoe Lofgren of California complained to CNN’s Jim Acosta that even with the sort of media saturation coverage normally reserved for totalitarian countries, the big rollout for their overhyped dog and pony show failed to capture the attention of the American people.

Rep. Lofgren, one of the House managers on the first failed impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump, lashed out at Fox during an appearance on Saturday’s edition of “CNN Newsroom” with host Jim Acosta.

After chewing the fat about the hearings in general, the topic turned to the disappointing ratings that fell far short of expectations given the tremendous amount of hype as Americans have moved beyond the so-called “insurrection” and are more concerned with more pressing problems, like the $5 a gallon national average for gas, the worst inflation in four decades and ongoing product shortages not normally seen in the land of plenty.

“And I know that you weren’t going for the ratings on Thursday night, but the Nielsen numbers have come in, and it’s been estimated that some 20 million Americans were watching the hearing, the very first hearing unfold on Thursday night,” Acosta said. “Of course that does not include Fox because Fox was not showing the hearing. Did that meet your satisfaction? Is that what you were hoping to see, that many millions of Americans tuning in? Do you consider that a success?”

Lofgren responded, “Well, I had no idea or really any expectation of how many people would tune in. It seems to me that’s an awful lot of Americans who watched, and isn’t it ironic that the Fox News commentators are constantly talking about so-called cancel culture and what they’re trying to do is make sure that the American people don’t actually see the committee’s work.”

“Cancel culture on steroids,” she carped.

“They try to cancel you,” Acosta remarked.

“That’s right. But we broke through, I think, to multiple millions of Americans and, you know, the ratings will go up and down, I’m sure, the meeting on Monday is at 10:00 AM., most people are at work at that time, but it’s carried online, and we’ll have an opportunity for people to see it in the evening or later at their leisure if they wish.” Lofren said, putting lipstick on a pig after over the dismal ratings for the primetime extravaganza.

“We’re going to just methodically plow through this as we did on Thursday night,” she added. “We’ll have a mix of live witnesses as well as video from the many, many, many interviews that have been conducted as well as the production of documents, so people will be able to see the evidence and the… that we have to support the things that we are saying.”

At first glance, the 20 million viewers may sound impressive but the three major networks ABC, CBS and NBC which preempted their regular programming took a beating, Fox News contributor put the numbers in perspective.

“Context: The evening newscasts on CBS, NBC & ABC average anywhere from 18 to 20 million viewers combined on a typical night. Those newscasts do not air in primetime. The January 6 hearings airing in primetime Thursday took in just 11+ million viewers on those three same networks,” he wrote on Twitter.

The J6 committee hearings will continue this week albeit without the primetime treatment which considering how badly that Thursday night’s production bombed, may be a good thing for Lofgren’s Democrats and Liz Cheney.
