A Democratic data cruncher and former Lincoln Project ally who describes herself as a “political branding strategist” is being pilloried for her short-sighted and out-of-touch take on how her party should respond to the Republican Party’s talking points.
“No matter what Republicans hit you with, respond with ‘but you tried to end American democracy,'” data cruncher Rachel Bitecofer tweeted Friday evening.
Look:
No matter what Republicans hit you with, respond with “but you tried to end American democracy.”
— Rachel Bitecofer 📈🔭🇺🇲🇺🇦 (@RachelBitecofer) June 10, 2022
Her Twitter biography describes her as a “political branding strategist.” Job-wise, she’s is a political analyst and data cruncher who previously served a a senior adviser to the disgraced, discredited Lincoln Project.
“Bitecofer publishes election forecasts for presidential and congressional elections based on demographic data,” according to Ballotpedia.
She’s most famous on the left for accurately predicting that Democrats would score big in the 2018 midterm elections against the incumbent Republican Party.
Among Democrats, she’s known as the “election whisperer.”
FYI, the opposing party virtually always scores big in midterm elections against an incumbent party …
Regarding her latest take, critics say it’s extraordinarily “stupid.”
Why?
For one, because going by her standards, her own political side is just as guilty of having “tried to end American democracy”:
But you tried to end American democracy.https://t.co/3CkgqkfoUM

We talking Jan 21 2017? May 31 2020? Or back to 2004? pic.twitter.com/5KyZsTy0H1

But you tried to end Western Civilization with the 2020 BLM terror riots.
— Bomb Bawerk ❌🥾🐍 (@BawerkBomb) June 11, 2022
You don’t give a damn about law and order or democracy. You supported riots targeting the police for over 2 years.
— Ted Hales (@hales_ted) June 11, 2022
You all claimed the election was stolen for four years, encouraged violence against the President and his administration, claimed Putin hacked the election and owns Trump, encouraged violent rioting and assaulting police, encouraged stopping the vote for Kavanaugh and J20 riots.

In fact, her side has “tried to end American democracy” many times.
Her side tried stopping the certification of then-GOP presidential nominee’s Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory.
Her side rioted during then-President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Her side has called for eliminating the Electoral College, eliminating the filibuster, and packing the Supreme Court.
Her side staunchly supports the censorship and silencing of dissenting voices.
Her side staunchly believes in using government power to force corporations into compliance.
And her side vociferously supported the deadly, months-long Black Lives Matter riots of 2020.
Bitecofer’s take is also “stupid,” critics say, because polling data has consistently shown that the American people are far more concerned with tangible issues that affect their daily lives than they are with the Jan. 6th riot.
“It cost me $125 to fill up my Explorer. This is really hurting my family.”
“But Republicans tried to end American democracy.”
“Are you stupid or something?” https://t.co/JMKGenCGJ7

Boy that is SO going to work ahead of the November midterms when people are just struggling to buy gas to get to work and find baby formula to feed their children! 🙄 You run with that!

The Republicans are going to run on inflation and the economy and you clowns will run on Jan 6. You’re going to get crushed.
— Jack Baez (@NotreDameFan27) June 12, 2022
Yes. Tell the mother trying to feed her family and fill up her tank that her concerns are unimportant. Run on this. I’m begging you.

But as “stupid” as Bitecofer’s words may be, they appear to represent the entire Democrat Party’s strategy going into 2022 to a T.
Both Democrats and their media allies are currently obsessively fixated on the Jan. 6th riot, as demonstrated by, one, the Jan. 6th committee’s public hearings that just began, and two, the endless Jan. 6th-related rhetoric.
Just type “Jan. 6th” into Google and you’ll find hundreds, if not thousands, of establishment media reports, columns, and editorials about this one topic.
The reason is because focusing on Jan. 6th really is the Democrats’ midterm strategy. The New York Times even recently admitted it.
“Jan. 6 Hearings Give Democrats a Chance to Recast Midterm Message,” the headline of a report published last Tuesday reads.
“Seventeen months after a mob of Donald J. Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol with false claims of a stolen election, House Democrats plan to use a landmark set of investigative hearings beginning this week to try to refocus voters’ attention on Jan. 6, aiming to tie Republicans directly to an unprecedented plot to undermine democracy itself,” the piece itself reads.
“With their control of Congress hanging in the balance, Democrats plan to use made-for-television moments and a carefully choreographed rollout of revelations over the course of six hearings to remind the public of the magnitude of Mr. Trump’s effort to overturn the election, and to persuade voters that the coming midterm elections are a chance to hold Republicans accountable for it.”
And they really believe this strategy will work, as Bitecofer’s tweet so clearly demonstrates …
