CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter is very, very upset over the prospect that not every network will be airing the nationally televised prime time hearings by Nancy Pelosi’s hand-picked, ultra-partisan House Select January 6 committee, and on Sunday, he melted down that Fox News and Newsmax have apparently declined to broadcast what will be an overwrought political circus as a live event.
On Sunday’s edition of “Reliable Sources” the leftist pundit blew a gasket that the two conservative networks have declined to subject their viewers to the grotesque spectacle to push the ridiculous narrative that the antics of a band of ragtag and unruly election protesters were a legitimate threat to overthrow the entire government of the most powerful country on the planet.
Despite all of the buildup for the first public telecast of Pelosi’s Soviet-style show trial and its prime time debut on Thursday, there appears to be a sense of dread from Democrats, Never Trumpers and their water carriers in the media that events have moved beyond the so-called “insurrection” with Americans feeling serious economic pain with record gas prices and the worst inflation in four decades and that their meticulously choreographed impeachment sequel will fall flat with voters.
Stelter was clearly distraught that the two conservative networks have declined to obsess over a protest gone badly awry that has been misleadingly portrayed as a coup in a textbook example of making a mountain out of a molehill from Democrats and their allies, and he vented his grievances on Sunday morning.
“This week the January 6 committee moves to prime time, holding a key hearing on Thursday,” Stelter began, “with previously unseen material and witness testimony, that’s what’s being promised. It is undoubtedly important, but will it register with a mass audience?”
“Over the past ten months of the committee’s investigation, we’ve already learned so much thanks to scoop after scoop from CNN and other outlets, yet pro-Trump media has denied, deflected, defended or just outright ignored the headlines,” he said. “I mean think about it. The coup plot was rooted in a big lie,” Stelter continued without noticing the obvious irony. “And ever since then, new lies have surrounded it. Lies heard on shows like Tucker Carlson’s on Fox and Greg Kelly’s on Newsmax. It’s so important to understand the divide in the media when it comes to January 6.”
“Two different extremes,” he added. “I mean, look at MSNBC’s coverage, January 6 mentioned more than 800 times so far on MSNBC this year and fewer than 150 times on Newsmax, and many of those mentions on Newsmax are dismissing the attack. This is critical to understand, that it’s so normal now on the right, to deny, deflect or in the words of Carlson, to say the committee is wholly illegitimate.”
“The Trump base does not want to hear about the coup attempt,” lamented Stelter. “The Trump base does not want to hear about the violence and about who inspired it, incited it. They don’t want to hear the revelations of the hearing this week, and I’m not trying to claim that this doesn’t matter, the hearing doesn’t matter, I’m saying it’s important, and because it is important, it’s being rejected by the MAGA media.”
“I mean will Fox even show the hearing on Thursday?” Stelter asked. “I asked a spokesperson for Fox News, I have not heard back, but it’s hard to imagine Tucker Carlson at 8pm eastern, who calls the committee illegitimate, Tucker ‘Patriot Purge’ Carlson giving up his time slot to hear the truth about January 6th. We’ll see what Fox does, we will see what Newsmax does, but as Vanity Fair pointed out, the question for the media this week is whether the hearing will break through.”
Also appearing on Sunday morning was two-time impeachment loser Rep. Adam “Shifty” Schiff who on CBS’s “Face The Nation” teased big revelations during the farce’s primetime rollout on Thursday.

“The American people, I think, know a great deal already. They’ve seen a number of bombshells already. There’s a great deal they haven’t seen. But perhaps most important is the public hasn’t seen it woven together, how one thing led to another, how one line of effort to overturn the election led to another and ultimately led to terrible violence, the first non peaceful transfer of power in our history,” the California Democrat told CBS’s Margaret Brennan.
