Vet who faked suicide after impregnating 14-yr-old stepdaughter, sentenced on child rape charges

One 14-year-old girl’s sick nightmare finally found some closure after her stepfather was sentenced to the equivalent of life in prison after raping her over thirty times and getting her pregnant.

Military veteran Jacob Blair Scott tried to fake his own death in order to get out of a court date in July of 2018 related to the sexual assault charges, leaving a boat near Orange Beach, Alabama with a suicide note and a gun, WLOX reported.

The suicide was suspect as there was very little forensic evidence in the dinghy to suggest a suicide had actually occurred although they did comb the area for his body for over a week.

The jury found 45-year-old Scott guilty of all 14 counts of child sex crimes on Thursday and his sentence included a total of 85 years without the possibility of parole, including 30 years for sexual battery, 15 years for touching a child for lustful purposes, and 40 years for child exploitation.

The former Purple Heart recipient was also ordered to pay $10,000 in damages.

“The evidence is overwhelming,” Circuit Judge Kathy King Jackson said according to the Sun Herald. “It’s more evidence than I’ve probably ever seen (in a case).”

Scott’s step-daughter tearfully recounted the sexual assault that occurred in 2016 and 2017. She reportedly gave birth to her stepfather’s baby.

District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath condemned Scott’s defense of his crimes.

“He is going to come in here and tell you I’m in the trenches with my (companion) and it’s so bad that I’m going to stick my (genitalia) in her,” she said. “Are you kidding me?”

“This is the first time in my 18 years I have ever seen anything so brazen and so vile,” McIlrath noted. “This is about blaming the 14-year-old. This whole trial was about humiliating the 14-year-old who had no choice.”

McIlrath also took issue with his defense claiming he had a “hard life.”

“Life is hard,” the district attorney said. “It’s hard for everybody. It is hard, right? It makes us who we are. It’s what you do when life is hard that matters.”

“If you don’t like your (your companion, leave) her,” McIlrath said. “If you don’t have sex…, you know there are options.”

“You know what isn’t an option? Having sex with … (a 14-year-old girl),” she added.

Eighteen months after trying to fake his death, Scott was added to the Top 15 Most Wanted List by U.S. Marshals and his story was featured on a true-crime show “In Pursuit With John Walsh,” which ultimately led to his arrest after a tip led investigators to an RV park in Oklahoma where he was living under the pseudonym “Luke.”

Since then, he has been under lock and key at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center where his trial was pushed out several times due to Covid.
