A climate-change activist wearing a T-shirt containing the words “We have 1,028 days left” ran onto the court during the French Open tennis tournament and tied herself to the net by the neck.
In an encounter that was widely shared on social media, the woman was subsequently carried out by four security guards after they detached the cord, which Outkick described as possibly a metal zip tie. The men’s semifinal match resumed following about a 15-minute delay after officials figured out what to do.
The environmental protester is reportedly affiliated with climate-change group in France called Derniere Renovation, which apparently claimed responsibility for the disruption.
The climate-action group evidently thinks the world is less than three years away from the point of no return.
In a message on the organization’s website, the 22-year-old protester reportedly named Alizee, who some might say literally put her neck on the line for the cause, posted the following (according to a translation) about the Friday incident.
“We are in 2022 and it is time to look reality in the face, the world to which politicians are sending us is a world to which Roland Garros will no longer be able to exist. Today, I entered the field because I can no longer take the risk of doing nothing in the face of the climate emergency?”

Roland-Garros is apparently an alternative name for the French Open.
Underneath Alizee’s message, the organization had this to say (again according to a translation):
“1026 days is what we have left to determine the future of humanity. Less than three years. The countdown began on March 28, 2022, the end of the ultimatum sent by Last Renovation to the government, and the date on which citizens entered into civil resistance. France has been condemned by its own courts for climate inaction. The future of this country is literally destroyed. To waste time is to perish.”

Elsewhere in Paris, a climate-change protester posing as an elderly, wheelchair-bound woman and who was lamenting those “who are destroying the Earth” smeared a bakery item on the glass protecting the Mona Lisa at the Louvre last week.

Casper Ruud was leading Marin Cilic in the third set of the men’s singles semifinal during the French Open interruption. Rudd went on to win the match and faces heavy favorite Rafael Nadal in the final round on Sunday.
Nadal did win the title for the 14th time by defeating Ruud in straight sets.
On three occasions, animal-rights activists stormed the court during recent National Basketball Association games at the Target Center, the Minneapolis home arena of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
In one incident, a protester glued herself (or tried to) to the court, and in another, an activist chained herself to a stanchion.
