‘We see you’: Meghan Markle’s ‘self-serving’ appearance at site of Texas massacre NOT well received

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, was raked over the coals on social media Thursday after paying a surprise visit to the memorial site of the Uvalde, Texas school massacre in what many claimed was an obvious publicity stunt.

Markle was assailed by reporters and photographers as she laid a bouquet of white roses at a makeshift memorial outside the Uvalde County Courthouse, not far from Robb Elementary School where a psychotic shooter killed 19 children and two teachers.

The actress also visited the Uvalde Community Center where a blood drive took place in the wake of the tragedy. A volunteer at the center told the Daily Mail that she toured the facility and donated food.

“She did not want anybody to know who she was,” the unnamed person said.

Markle’s spokesperson told People that she went to Uvalde as a mother to offer her condolences and support to the community in their time of grief. But not everyone saw it that way.

One commenter on Twitter was very blunt, “Shame on you for using the pain of these families for your publicity. All the way from California to Texas, camera in tow, to strike a pose at the memorial site of dead children. You are callous. Your PR is dark. A flight to Texas but not to your Dad.”

Jill Kargman, who is the author and star of Bravo’s “Odd Mom Out,” also slammed Markle, according to the Daily Mail, “This rings hollow and feels opportunistic. I thought she stepped down for privacy? Using dead kids for a photo op isn’t drawing attention to the tragedy it’s drawing attention to her obvious quest to be our People’s Princess. No thanks.”

Markle was dressed in a t-shirt, ballcap, and jeans while reportedly wearing a $6,900 Cartier Love Bracelet and Princess Diana’s $23,000 Cartier Tank Watch. Prince Harry was nowhere to be seen. However, the head of her security team, Alberto Alvarez, who formerly handled protection for Michael Jackson, was with her.

“I had no idea who she was. She just was carrying on a conversation like her and I knew each other for years,” volunteer Gloria Contreras, 40, told BuzzFeed in an interview.

“We were just talking about, you know, the situation and what happened what we were doing here. I told her about us giving out water to the people and feeding them,” Contreras noted.

“I even talked about my personal life, telling her about my son and my family and, you know, coming to Texas because she told me she was from Santa Barbara and I said, ‘Well, you need to come to Texas!'” she added. “We were talking about Texas and Uvalde and how it is to be in a small town and how everybody is so kind and warm-hearted and know we know each other and stuff and how the faith is deep-rooted.”

“She was just really sweet,” another volunteer named Georjean Burnell, 46, told BuzzFeed News. “She just kind of walked in with her [security] crew and started putting ice waters in the bucket with us and laying out chips for the people who were needing snacks before and after donating.”

“It’s funny, we didn’t even know it was her until after she left and now we’re so sad. I mean, to be honest, we thought she was our neighbor,” she commented.

Markle appears to be a staunch advocate of gun control as well.

  1. To the women who claimed not to know who she was, how the hell can they even say that? She acted just like she was a neighbor?
    Completely discounting that she had a security team and camera crew with her (do all your neighbors have them?) She has been on almost every magazine cover (except SI swimsuit issue), not to mention most news and media outlets. How the hell can you NOT know who this narcissistic (b-word) person is? A setup for sure. Probably a few staff members pretending to be locals for the interviews.

  2. We don’t need celebs there! This is a small community taking care of their own. I wasn’t surprised to see the ambulance chasing Al Sharpton there within hours to perform media church services. He must have had his jet ready within minutes of the shooting. They don’t need stupid Biden or Miss Giggles there either. People want to see meaningful action from such strategies. Action still sitting in Congress without any action. What type of hunting is an assault rifle needed for??

    2. It seems all they can block are conservative comments. A comment I made urging our representatives to vote against a bill using the word “k!ll” (insert and i for the !) was blocked, even though the context had nothing to do with violence. It should be easy for them to block these scammers.
