Mom of TX school shooter says relationship with him was good: ‘My son wasn’t a violent person’

The mother of the 18-year-old killer who massacred 19 young children and two adults at a Texas elementary school maintains that her son was not a violent person despite the horrific carnage that he visited upon his helpless victims.

The Daily Mail caught up with Adriana Reyes on the day after her son Salvador Ramos allegedly walked into Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, and told the terrified children “You’re going to die” before opening fire with the only thing preventing a higher death count being the actions of a brave Border Patrol agent who intervened to eliminate the threat.

In the exclusive interview, the alleged killer’s mom said that she was “surprised” that he would act out in such a murderously violent manner and that he was a “loner” who didn’t have friends and who “kept to himself.”

“My son wasn’t a violent person. I’m surprised by what he did,” Reyes said.

“I pray for those families. I’m praying for all of those innocent children, yes I am. They [the children] had no part in this,” she said, according to the Daily Mail which spoke to her from the hospital where she was with her mother, 66-year-old Celia Gonzalez, the grandmother of the shooter who was his first victim, Ramos shot her in the face before embarking on his bloody rampage.

According to the Daily Mail, “She also slapped down reports she had a toxic relationship with her son that may have warped his personality. She continued: ‘I had a good relationship with him. He kept to himself; he didn’t have many friends.”

“She said the last time she spoke with him was last Monday, on his birthday, adding: ‘I had a card and a Snoopy stuffed animal to give to him,'” the outlet reported.

Now her son is dead, along with the children of 19 other mothers and two adults who were gunned down in cold blood by the kid who “wasn’t a violent person” as well as her own mother who is clinging to her life.

“She claims she did not know where Salvador shot her mother but added, me and my sister are going to care for her when she gets home to Uvalde,” according to the Daily Mail. “She said her mother ‘with her left hand, was able to hold my hand.’ She added her mother cannot smile but knows she is there for her. She said doctors do not know what her mother’s prognosis is.”

Celia Gonzalez’s husband, 72-year-old Rolando Reyes, the grandfather of Salvador Ramos told ABC News that he wasn’t aware that his grandson had purchased the two AR-15 style guns or that they were in the house where he had been living after an alleged conflict with his mother over Wi-Fi.

His grandfather is a felon making it illegal to reside in a home with firearms and said that had he known, he would have turned his grandson in, according to the outlet.

“Reyes said there were no signs the morning of the shooting that anything unusual was going to happen. The suspect had a minor argument with his grandmother over the payment of a phone bill, but nothing significant,” ABC News reported.
