Scorching WSJ op-ed: Clinton ‘sanctioned’ Russia-Trump narrative did ‘ENORMOUS harm to country’

While most of the establishment press, including The Wall Street Journal’s news division, has ignored or downplayed the relevance of failed 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s involvement in the Alfa Bank smear, the Journal’s editorial board hasn’t.

On Friday the board published a scathing column excoriating Clinton for the “enormous harm” she did to the country with the Alfa Bank smear.

“[T]he Clinton campaign created the Trump-Alfa allegation, fed it to a credulous press that failed to confirm the allegations but ran with them anyway, then promoted the story as if it was legitimate news. The campaign also delivered the claims to the FBI, giving journalists another excuse to portray the accusations as serious and perhaps true,” the column reads.

Most of the press will ignore this news, but the Russia-Trump narrative that Mrs. Clinton sanctioned did enormous harm to the country. It disgraced the FBI, humiliated the press, and sent the country on a three-year investigation to nowhere. Vladimir Putin never came close to doing as much disinformation damage.”

The Alfa Bank smear was just one subset of the larger Russian collusion delusion hoax and conspiracy theory that was used for years to derail the Trump administration.

Clinton has also been linked to the other parts, namely the discredited Steele dossier that was paid for by both her 2016 campaign and the Democrat National Committee.

Her link to the Alfa Bank smear was confirmed in full on Friday by her 2016 campaign manager, Robby Mook, as he testified in the trial of Michael Sussmann, the disgraced former Clinton campaign attorney who’s been accused of lying to the FBI.

“Prosecutors asked Mr. Mook about his role in funneling the Alfa Bank claims to the press. Mr. Mook admitted the campaign lacked expertise to vet the data, yet the decision was made by Mr. Mook, policy adviser Jake Sullivan (now President Biden’s national security adviser), communications director Jennifer Palmieri and campaign chairman John Podesta to give the Alfa Bank claims to a reporter,” the board notes.

Here’s the key: “Mr. Mook said Mrs. Clinton was asked about the plan and approved it.”

Below are direct quotes from Friday’s hearing:

Questioner: “Mr. Mook, before the break you had testified that there was a conversation in which you told Ms. Clinton about the proposed plan to provide the Alfa-Bank allegations to the media; is that correct?”

Mook: “Correct.”

Questioner: “And what was her response?”

Mook: “All I remember is that she agreed with the decision.”

This seems like a big deal, no? Yet just as the board predicted, most of the establishment press, including the Journal itself, is either ignoring the story outright or downplaying the relevance of Mook’s Clinton bombshell.

Take CNN. Instead of focusing on Clinton’s culpability, the far-left outlet has run interference by choosing to instead bash billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk for drawing attention to the bombshell.

“During the hearing, Twitter users recirculated Clinton’s old post. It caught the eye of billionaire Elon Musk, who has become increasingly vocal about political matters while he tries to buy Twitter, and recently announced his support for the Republican Party. He called the Trump-Alfa allegation ‘a Clinton campaign hoax’ and claimed that Sussmann ‘created an elaborate hoax,'” CNN reported Friday.

“Sussmann’s lawyers declined to comment to CNN about Musk’s tweets.
There is no evidence to support Musk’s claim that Sussmann or the Clinton campaign peddled information they knew was untrue. Multiple witnesses testified that respected cyber experts harbored genuine national security concerns about the data. Sussmann’s lawyers repeatedly said he had no reason to doubt the accuracy of the material when he provided it to the FBI.”

Critics find it amazing that the same establishment media that constantly warns about American democracy being “under assault” can so easily make a molehill out of a mountain of a bombshell:

What remains unclear is whether Clinton will ever be held accountable. Because of how corrupt most of America’s institutions, including its media, have become, most critics are doubtful …
